Will professional "splinterlander" be a future job?

This is one to think about.

The present is a very strange place right now.

We have changed the whole landscape in just a few short years. When i joined the chain four years ago it was with the intention of earning a few extra euros.

Today 'm dreaming of playing professional Esports with splinterlands. Yes, I would need to build a good deck and actually improve at the game but the point is still valid.

It could be a real thing.

I read a very interesting and comprehensive article form Balthazar NFT gaming today on @splinterlands that broke it all down step by step.

Balthazar Research Report – Splinterlands

I skipped over the initial part of setting up an account and playing the game. I have the gist of it. I'm lucky enough to have some very strong legacy cards that are worth a reasonable amount of crypto. Not everybody has this but everybody can position themselves for the next phase.

Think where we will be in 2025.

What caught my interest was their theory for the future of the game.

  • New modern formats.
  • Balance out the competitiveness.
  • Increase the user base.
  • Land
  • Crafting.
  • Better game mechanics.
  • More dynamic gameplay.
  • Suddenly it becomes a more skill based game.

All of which leads to a full Esports genre as the game grows in popularity.

Think of Yu-gi-uh in real life. Build your deck, compete in real and digital life. Sponsored tournaments. Large audiences. High profile players.

Would anybody here be interested?

I know that I would love to do it.

Create a serious land base to produce assets. Build a full deck and try to win a world title. Travel to Vegas and compete in front of thousands in real time.

There are a lot of ways this could go and we already know that there is a partnership with Zensports who share this vision.

I personally think that the splinterlands team will have no problem riding out the next few bear markets as they have done it before with less funds. I think that their vision if a few steps ahead of the competitors due to their head start and strong community. I think that there is a market for this going forward and that the game will go viral over the next few years.

Now is the time to graft hard and get set up for 2025. Lots of people are watching the markets and trying to guess what happens for the next few weeks.

I'm going to play the long game and try to get ready for the future.

Ready for my professional debut.

Try for yourself.

If you haven't played the game before then now is the best time to join. Today is much better than tomorrow and a lot better than later.

Cards worth a few cents now will have a much higher value in the future as the print runs out. We have a strong community and seen this happen every time as it grows with the game.

Link to the game here,

Splinterlands.

Wow that Balthazar Research Report is a really comprehensive report and I was not expecting them to put together such a long report. It went over all aspects of the game and even the future roadmap.

It was very good. Came across it on twitter and had a deep dine into the report.

They made a lot of sense and it only got me thinking about more growth in the game.

Building for a few years down the line.

Sounds 2025 going to be great for this. More dynamic game plays and everything focused on modern technology is really exciting. We are waiting to see such awesome developments.

I'm not sure how it will go over the next few years but i've put three into the game already and have no problem putting another three years of growth in again.

I think that it will be very worth it over time and could be the start of something very good.

Sell the picks and shovels...

Shockingly, I'm going to say that they need to fix the in game economy so that the people who own and sell/rent the picks and shovels need to be able to make a living. Otherwise, no.

However, other games will have tons of ability to make a living in.

There will be a time in the near future when the options for being a professional gamer will be playing for rewards, playing as an esports star/streamer, farming, questing for grand treasures and fortune, opening businesses within the gaming world to sell the picks and shovels or act as a place to gather.

The gaming future is bright. Splinterlands is still problematic.

I know where you stand on this and agree that the economy needs tweaking slightly to help the lower levels but the numbers that we saw for a few months were not realistic.

Nothing should be earning 120% APR and stay sustainable. I think that the players should be able to earn a living with the owners able to earn 20 - 25% passively a good balance.

How you strike that balance is another question but i would be happy renting out assets at those returns.

We are seeing the downturn from nuking the bots, cancelling the lower earnings, new cards entering the market and the crypto market in general. The same way as we saw the surge from a combination of factors but overall splinterlands hasn't dipped too badly considering. This is the rebalancing phase of the game where assets will get bought up over time and new players are still coming in.

I think it's a healthy thing to happen and they are trying to get that balance right all of the time. We saw a lot of growth in a short space of time and this pullback gives the team a breather to see what wasn't working and go again stronger with the next phase. They did hurt themselves with the changes but i think that it is only short term and as the number one game out there have a lot of eyes watching for the next move. It wouldn't take much interest to start the charge all over again.

Splinterlands is flawed but still my best prospect for fame and fortune.

I don't think that this vision is totally utopical. I mean there is a business behind this game and for the first time in history, players are real stake holders in the game. If you own a card, you own a part of the game and now with SPS we have even a say to how the game should evolve. The game is making money and can therefore expand and the best is, the players are making money too. I see Splinterlands really ready to become a real E-sports magnet, the pioneer for all blockchain based games out there :-)

It would be great if they could. This would put all of us in a great position and if there were extra incentives would also convince me to keep filling out my deck over time to add in the old cards.

If we knew that champion players were going to have big live tournaments then it would be worth putting back in all of the money and try to make it happen.

The short term goal is to max out the new chaos set and be competitive in modern format.

Suddenly it becomes a more skill based game.

Nowadays it is rather pay-to-win. It used to be much better in the past (mainly in 2019). I started playing Splinterlands on 2018.12.30. I can imagine people doing this as a job. Just like nowadays people playing esport games as a job. But Splinterlands really needs to change its reward distribution to achieve that. Alchemy and legendary potion charges will not make a living for anyone.

Good luck and have fun.

It is a lot of pay to win at the moment.
I'm hoping that over time they bring in more grind to win aspects that can combine your cards with skill.
Having a few side games that allow you to earn magic cards from purely skill based efforts rather than buying everything.

There needs to be increased rewards for the lower tiers and private tournaments for novices so that they have a fair chance to earn. At the moment there are too many rewards floating to the top when we need to expand the userbase.

Potions are no good to noobs unless they get to sell them.

In my opinion, if the price of a Hive token (DEC in #Splinterlands) is twice (2 times) its peg (which is $0.001 per DEC), the rewards should be doubled for everyone to make everyone more eager to play and make the price of DEC go back to its pegged price faster. I also think that it is a bad idea to totally remove rewards from Bronze III and Novice Leagues, since paying for $10 to register a new #Splinterlands account is already expensive for most people, even bot operators.

I give you some !PIZZA, some !PGM, and some !hivebits.

I believe Splinterlands will become so big that we will need to specialize to stay competitive. It is already quite difficult to manage without counting the land, new formats and new game modes. As for becoming a full time job for some people, oh yeah, I see that happening...
