POB - Word of the Week Challenge - Atmosphere - Drum & Bass Edition

I've been looking for some inspiration for today's post to help push through the #hiveblopomo challenge of posting every day in April and stumbled across a post by @calumam that proved to be just the ticket! Proof of Brain is a new community where you're encouraged to use your brain and show your human side by interacting with others and creating original posts (not copy-pasted).

Calum has started up a pretty cool weekly contest to help get you thinking about things relating to a specific word and so I thought I'd jump in on this week's one which is all about "Atmosphere".

As soon as I saw that word, I instantly thought of a track I made called "Ghost of Snare" from a while ago which is by far my most atmospheric track I have ever made. The dark atmosphere starts from the off and intensifies as the track goes on - more on that below but if you are easily scared, proceed to click that play button with caution!

This is one of my more uncharacteristically dark tracks which I made as I went through one of the toughest times during my PhD. I don't often share it because it takes me back to a place that I really don't want to go back to but a lot of people liked it and some said it was their favourite track of mine so there you go!

I always think if you can create an atmosphere with music then you can let the listener's mind take them to wherever they want to go and although I share a story with each tune I make, it never ceases to amaze me how every interpretation is different. Some have said this will be a good track for a car chase, others said they could dance to it in some sort of vampire rave, for me, I cower in the corner lol!

So there you have it, my take on this week's word challenge on the Proof of Brain site - check out the original post here and share your interpretation of the word "Atmosphere"!

I'll keep a look out and see what you come up with!

Have fun

Nicky

Well it definitely does create an atmosphere, that is for sure. I do like the dark side of this track, love when those heavy beats kick in. Nice work Nicky and I'm going to check out that post by @calumam xxxxxx

Because we just moved and are having issues with our internet service provider, I’ve been rationing the data on my cell phone.

I decided to make an exception and listen to this track with my daughter. She’s 14 and her fav music genres seem to be dnb, breaks, and 90s rock (Tool, Rage). I’ve raised her well. Lol

She said it’s not vampire rave, it’s wolf rave (she obsessed with wolves. I don’t want to know what a wolf rave is lol).

You sure have! Parenting level 1000.

Hahaha, you really have raised her very well! Future raver in the Ana household! Wolf rave? Awesome! New genre of music too, that sounds like it will be immense at Halloween!

I was just thinking the other day "I wonder if Nicky does more dark dnb". This is my kind of vibe, takes me back to the days of seeing Noisia.

Get this one on the speaker system fella. Talk about atmosphere.

Great to see a word of the week post from you, and I can see that @anaclark has been inspired to share also because of your post. Love to see that.

Haha, there aren't many dark ones, this is one of two. I might share the other dark one tomorrow to complete the set. Noisia... now that's a big name producing some big sounds. That remix is something else... the contrast of the vocal with the heaving bassline in the middle then the drop... wow! No-one else but Noisia can do that

I'll be checking her post out shortly. Seems we inspired each other to make posts this week!

I'll keep a lookout for it, it's definitely my preferred style of dnb. It's not for everyone though.

Glad you liked the remix, Noisia is something else, insanely good.

Yeah I don't mind a bit of filth mixed in a liquid set, rather like the light side of the yin yang lol! I will post it up tomorrow, I already did my quota of 1 post today early in the morning :)

Nice track! That background music sure sounds dark... It also feels very lonely. Like being alone out in the woods at night and not knowing how to get back home.

Thanks a lot mate and for sharing your take. You pretty much just nailed exactly how I felt for a long time with those words! Maybe I should do some more dark tracks :D

Great track Nick, I love a moody track, the beats work well for me with the dubby delay on there, it reminds me a little of Amon Tobin, or FSOL maybe? You've inspired me to create my own 'Atmosphere' post. Thanks!

Thanks Mr Grizzle! Glad you enjoyed the atmosphere in this one and really happy you are reminded of FSOL and Amon Tobin! That's really cool!

I'll try to stop by your post - have you got a link to it?
