Experiencing Japanese wedding

avatar

Hi Hivers,
how are you all doing today? hope you're all doing great. has anyone attended any any ceremony in japan ? for me I attended a marriage ceremony in japan, it was an eye opening for me.
it was colorful and beautiful with a mixture of cultural experience. I have never seen or experience such a wonderful culture.

it all began when I received an invitation from a friend to attend a wedding, his son was getting married and I thought to myself why not and I accepted, during my time of excitement. I inform my friend in the house here, an hiver @dmilliz

He enlightened me more about Japanese culture as regards weddings in japan. I was surprised when he told me that I have to give the celebrant a wedding gift which is called Goshugi. for those that don`t know what Goshugi is,

Goshugi is gift money that is given when you are invited to a wedding. In my country Nigeria, it may be customary to gift new household items, appliances and money, but in Japan it is customary to gift money.

Now this brings me to the question how much can I give them ? I was confused, I did not know what to do or how it`s been done so I tried to contact my friend Once more, He told me
If the bride or groom is a friend, 20,000 – 30,000 yen and if the bride or groom is a superior or a boss at work, it is customary to give more than 30,000 yen. He also said it is best to avoid ’4′ and ’9′ when thinking about how much to give. In Japan, ‘4 – shi (death)’ and ‘9 – ku (suffering)’ are bad luck numbers so it is best to avoid them.

I didn`t know that, I was shocked. I was glad to make an inquiry which saved me from embarrassment. I wonder how they would have felt if I had done it the wrong way. It would have meant wishing them bad luck, while on the contrary, I wanted to wish them a happy life together.
I also asked about the color of suit to wear, he said I mustn't wear white, so as not to over shadow the bride and groom as it's their day, it's only meant for them.

To cut the long story short, I attended the wedding. it was wonderful this is me

have you ever experience any Japanese traditional wedding? is it the same as your country? it's very different from mine, I think they have a Unique Cultural Traditions.
