What does it mean to me ? Well I feel that it's a day of getting freedom from everyone and everything. This day ensures that we all as human beings uphold and honour the right given to us, some people take independence day or just the word independence as a mockery, which is why I feel that we all as citizens should set good example for others and make the best out of independence.
Independence day is celebrated to mark the end of British rule and colonialism in Nigeria.
Here in Nigeria, the name Nigeria was coined by Flora Shaw , she was the wife of Lord Lugard (a British soldier )who paved the way for Nigeria's amalgamation and became the first governor general of Nigeria , this as show how much our forefathers has suffered from the British , our country wasn't even named by we the citizens.
Celebrating a nation's Independence is by far and away the most popular type of national day around the world.
As we have countries that celebrate the day of freedom (Independence day),we also have countries that doesn't celebrate Independence day, countries like, United kingdom, Denmark, Canada etc , they don't celebrate Independence day because they are occupied by any other countries
Over 70 colonize countries still existed in the empire overseas.
The annual holiday (1st October of every year) on Independence day comes with celebrating our great country and it gives every citizens the opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of our great nation.
The day usually start with an address from the president of the country in the morning , which will be broadcasted on every radio , magazine, newspaper and television.
INDEPENDENCE
Independence according to Wikipedia is a condition of a person, nation,country or state in which residents and population ,or some portion thereof, exercise self government and usually sovereignty over its territory
The Independence day reminds every Nigeria of the beginning of new era,the start of a new life free of bondage and slavery. It is for the same reason that independence day is given so much important and celebrated in a very grand manner across the country. 1st of October, 1960 marked the end of british colonialism.
It was with the constant and determined years of non violent efforts of the freedom fighters that Nigeria got her Independence. Independence Day is remembered and celebrated religiously across Nigeria as the citizens commemorate the struggle of freedom.
Independence Day is celebrated throughout Nigeria with grand ceremonies including raising of National flag,speeches/skit n freedom fighters and various moments, traditional dances, competition,singing the national anthem and so on.
The day is observed commemoration and honour of all the people who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country.
October 1,1960 is the day that marked the end of British colonial rule. When we celebrate this day every year, we commemorate the effort of all those who fought for independent regardless of their own lives.
It has been 62 years since Nigeria got her Independence. We celebrate the 62th Independence day on 1st October ,2022.
Every little corner of the country celebrates Independence day by hoisting the National flag, singing the national anthem and organizing many events to highlight the important of the day. From small gathering in every street to school,colleges and state assemblies, the day is regarded as one of the most important occasion which has to be remembered and celebrated.
It is really a thing of joy and peace to be among the citizens of Nigeria celebrating this day. I want to use this moment to wish all the patriotic citizens of Nigeria a good and happy independenceday.
