Not only human do wear down, the machines do wear and tear if not regularly checked, it is necessary to constantly check but i must say our maintenance culture is sometimes questioned, as we have to wait till the machine is faulty before we find a solution. this tiger generator set is one i've been using close to 2 years now and i do service as at when due but recently i noticed an abnormal sound coming out from the generator and also smoke from the exhaust pipe, i called the repairer to ask how and googled a few as to getting the solutions. I borrowed a few tools and buy new piston and exhaust.

This is an abnormal smoke coming out from the exhaust, which is caused by many holes on the exhaust pipe and also because the engine oil has been insufficient now affecting the block engine which spoils the piston.

The new piston i got to replace the old one

The old piston

The process

I wanted to fix two things, the exhaust pipe and the piston, so i begine by fixing the piston first. The piston is located around the block engine, so i have to remove the block engine first.

I cleaned the block engine too and washed with fuel while i fix the piston and properly pack it tightly

One of the things that do destroy the piston is insufficient oil to the surface, so afyer i fix the new one i make sure i lubricate its surface, with oil and petrol.

  • Then i proceeded fixing the exhaust pipe

I was able to couple back the generator while it works perfectly now. I still feels it might look difficult if you don't give it a try at all. I must say i really spend time on this and do have to look for the tools i dont have, and sometimes called the repairer once I'm lost.

Repairing is way cheaper than buying a new one. That generator should be good for many more hours of runtime. Good job!
