Euro 2020 finally takes the U - turn and head straight to Rome. Well, I'm not surprised and in my preview before the final match was played, i Analyzed that this game will be a balanced game between the two European nations and that the one who wants it more will win.

There is No doubt Italy showed that they want it the most, even playing at Wembley, England home ground, the Italians rose up and keep their heads straight.

I don't know what the english tactics under southgate was though, was it defend or what, playing with 5 defenders and 2 deep lying midfielders in Rice and philips.
Luckily for England they got the first goal in the 2nd minute of the match, i would have thought they will win this conveniently.
Scoring early in the match would give you some confidence and you'd want to take things slow and calm, ontheotherhand, i expected Italy to be worried and careful because they wouldn't want to concede the second goal in the match.

To my surprise Italy came all out at England and dictate the match, in fact, as soon as England scored its like the match was over for England while Italy did the playing and dominating all through the match.
England were pecked back and it looks like they want to defend the one goal all through

Kudos to the Italians who threw everything they had into this match, chiesa did not allowed the England defense to rest running through them and Italy's relentless efforts paid off in the 67th minute when bonucci got the equalizer.

Italy's Mancini reacted quickly making subs in the early hours of second half, chiesa got injured and was replaced, insigne wasnt really doing enough going forward and was taken off.

Again, i must state that the Italians approached this match like a do or die affair, like a world cup finals, i must say i salute their courage and mentality, the whole Italy and Italians will be so proud of them

What does England did wrong??

It still down to say the English national team is not a complete team just yet, no disrespect, there is still lacking that spark and a commanding display, i mean why the hell are they playing like the underdogs in the finals?.
Italy played Spain in the semi finals and the Spanish team dominated Italy, a midfield trio of Pedri,Busquet,Koke dominated that game if not that the Spanish team lack strikers who can score they would have edged out Italy in the semis, the spanish team so exposed the Italians and I'd thought the English team will do the same but it wasn't so.

I expected that while the Italians were dominating the match, Gareth southgate will bring more attacking players because the best form of defense is to attack, bring attackers so that the Italians will sit back a bit and stop coming at you, instead he did a like for like changes bringing in Henderson for declan rise, while i'd thought Grealish would have been perfect. saka,Sancho and Rashford should have come in abit earlier in the match.

Italy played more stronger team enroute to the finals, the Austria, belgium, spain and i think that give them perfect preparation for the finals and sharpen their mentality, the Spanish exposed them in the semis and they improved from there, where England were playing weak opponents, Germany,Ukraine and Denmark, these teams don't really give them the fight they'd wanted.

  • The world cup is just next year, very much around the corners and all these teams still have time to improve and prepare to give a better fight next time.

I almost forgot to add, The match ended 1 all draw and Italy won 3 - 2 on penalties. Penalty is a game of luck, anybody could miss so I'm not going to blame anyone for that.Congrats to Italy, Better luck to England next time.

Good for Italy, I expected Italy to win the match but when they reached the penalty round, I thought England was the favorite. My reasoning for this is very simple, no team had won 2 penalty round in a row in this tournament, since Italy defeated Spain in the penalties, I thought they were going to lose against England but Donnarumma proved the world how good he is and can know be considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world without doubt.

Maybe Italy were a bit lucky in the penalty shoot out, but they certainly deserved to win this Euro
