It was actually completed in 1936 but has been updated over the years. Here is some more info if you are interested. :) https://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/

Here is a pic my dad took on one of our vacations in 1968 from about the same place.

The road across the dam used to be the main crossing across the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona. If you look in the upper left corner of my picture you will see the new bridge that carriers the highway across the canyon.
