This piece of work will help individuals to know the benefits of exercise in their daily lives. It will equally enable them to make good use of the sports facilities in their environment.

WHAT IS EXERCISE?

Exercise is a physical activities that we can engage in, which enhances our health and fitness. There are different kinds of exercises such as jugging, running, speed swimming, jumping martial arts and many more. All these convey many health benefits such as weight control, improving flexibility, preventing cardiovascular disease, aiding born health and help in sustaining life.
The lack of enough exercise has become a more serious problem in modern times. Technology has immensely contributed to better health with passing of times, it has also contributed to a sedentary lifestyle in large segments of the population. Years back, men will plow the horse to distant places, Sweating out unwanted fat and living healthy. Modern workers often sits in front of a computer, drives their car virtually everywhere he/she needs to go and spend their evening in front of a television. All these encourages Inactivity. Modern technology has also produced a generation of sedentary children. They spend most of their time on video games and also end their day in front of a television.

RISK OF PHYSICALLY INACTIVE LIFESTYLE.

The drastic reduction in physical activities has led to many physical, mental, emotional and health challenges.

  • People with sedentary lifestyle, stand the risk of developing high blood pressure.
  • Physical activities can reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes.
  • Inactive lifestyle may increase risk of certain cancer, including colon, breast and uterine cancer.
  • It add to feeling of anxiety and depression.
  • It causes stroke.
  • Heart attack.
  • Sedentary lifestyle can lead to premature death.
    Inactivity in the life of children, can lead to poorer self esteem, greater anxiety, and higher level of stress.

Despite the well publicized risk of physical inactivity, a large segment of the world's population remains virtually inactive. Recently, death related by physically inactive lifestyle has been on the high rate. Due to this development, The World health organization ( WHO) recommended that adults between age 18 and 64 years should get involve in at least 150 minutes of moderate_ intensity aerobic exercise in a week or 75 minutes of exercise of vigorous_ intensity through out a week. Anyone within the age bracket not meeting the target is said to be physically inactive. The guild line shows it to be 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day for at least 5 days in a week. Yes, you are inactive when you don't do the following!

  • Do not exercise or engage in some vigorous activities for at least 30 minutes Three times a week.
  • While engaging in leisure activities,do not move from place to place
  • Rarely walk by foot.
  • Always seated.
