Greetings to all those members readers of this community, it is an infinite pleasure, to be able to share again a publication with you, wishing you all well in advance and inviting you to continue taking care of Covid-19.

This time I want to talk about a professional baseball connoisseur, who did not belong to any team either as a player or as coaching staff, knew every detail of the ball rented, was a friend of players, coach, manager and others related to the sport, admired by a large audience that is delighted with his voice, known by many people and personally virtual friend of almost everyone, over many years reported and transmitted by radio and TV the best of every play to the fans who could not be in each park.

Both on radio and television Delio Amado León was an icon of sports narration, especially in baseball, his charming voice made any listener feel part of those who were in the stadium enjoying the ball game; he had plenty of love, dedication, passion, charisma, simplicity, coherence and a rich lexicon that amazed and hypnotized by his spontaneity.

I particularly had the opportunity to listen to him since 1993, and from that moment on, every time I listened to that great narrator at the beginning of each season, it was for me and I imagine for the whole country as a prelude to the Christmas season in Venezuela, because Delio was synonymous with joy.

His description enchanted children, youngsters, adults, men and women; I particularly dreamed of becoming a sports or horse racing narrator and sometimes I would take an old washing machine, one of those that are no longer on the market, very similar to a megaphone and I would sit under a mango tree to imitate the best narrator I had ever heard, I thought I was Delio Amado but I had never had a microphone in my hands, in my innocence I thought that the people who spoke on the radio were because they had the player's horns in the back, While I narrated my imaginary game I tried to repeat the few words I remembered from the game that the night before I had heard on Radio Rumbos Venevision, I tried to imitate that thick and sharp voice of my idol but mine was to say thin and childish and did not give me the phonic tonality, however in my neighborhood many already called me narrator and my mother encouraged me and told me to study so you can be like that old man on television.

As time went by I matured, my adolescence stage was in full development and I was learning every day the phrases of that old man, but at the beginning of the 96 season I did not hear him in the media, I even thought that maybe he was on vacation, for those years the news did not reach the audience as fast as it does now, I had to wait until midnight or the next day to find out what was going on, and while I was waiting for the midday news to see the baseball results in the sports section, I heard when Tinedo Guía, anchor journalist of Radio Caracas Televisión in the Observador (star newscast) said that Delio Amado León had passed away.

The voice of that legendary player who is still more alive than ever in the memory of those of us who had the privilege of delighting ourselves with his exquisite description of every at bat, every play, every strikeout, every home run, it was hard not to love him, because he was part of a great history of more than 40 years in radio and television and a golden era of baseball where in spite of not having many local players in the big leagues as now, nor having a tool like the internet, the transmissions through these media were interesting for the fans.

Today I thank life for allowing me to know and live in the world of modern radio although I would have liked to live that time of yesteryear in a booth with him and other greats, such as the also deceased Luis Manuel Fernandez, Carlos Tovar Bracho, of whom I will also soon tell a story because they left an indelible mark in the Venezuelan sports journalism.

How sad that afternoon after seeing the news, I remember that I was ashamed to be seen crying for nothing, I went quietly and got under the bed in the room I shared with my brother, there I stayed until about three in the afternoon, when I left I had cobweb in my hair, I grabbed my washing machine blade and I went to tell a story that was in the street of rubber ball, many told me; You are no longer Delio Amado because he died and without being able to avoid it the tears came out of my eyes, my mother told me son do not pay attention to them that you are going to be one day like the old coco pelao and my father told me that I could not be like the best, I had to study and become different with my own style.

After so many years after his death and having known and listened to so many good announcers on radio and TV, for me Delio is still eternal, especially when he narrated a home run.... "There goes a big hit, the ball is going backwards, it's going, it's going, it's going joooooooooonnnnrooooooonnn".
