Thanks for the questions, I chose to make comments because I think it's a better approach than making an account that automatically, without warning, downvotes any account that approves @earn.hive as a witness.

I don't know if you know the @earn.hive witness. They've made no posts which is not confidence-inspiring. The account's spam does not show the voting is some temporary, promotional thing. It is bribing for witness votes.

In normal circumstances a single corrupt witness account, even if it were in the top 20 producers, can't do too much to harm the network. But we've seen in the Justin Sun incident, and other extraordinary circumstances, that every block producer does count. However, if the corruption/bribery were tolerated, this would not be the only corrupt witness account.

Why is that bad for the community? Because the community needs reliable witnesses that are acting in the interests of the whole network. We as stakeholders need the network to be safe, secure, and decentralized. Otherwise, the value of our stake is compromised. Corrupt witnesses do not add value to the network if they exist to extract value from witness rewards and distribute them only to their voters.

A downvote wouldn't necessarily affect someone's reputation on Hive. There is a reputation score but I wouldn't mean for downvotes to negatively affect that if I were downvoting because of approving this corrupt witness. Any positive post payout can only add to an account's reputation score. And even if a post was brought to below zero, it takes very big downvotes to affect a reputation score that's 50 or greater.

I use my downvotes for fighting abuse. Discouraging voting for a corrupt witness falls within that scope. Making it cost a little more to vote for a bribing witness than the bribes return to the voter is the goal. Using downvotes for influence is where I draw the line. I recognize that going down that road would be bad not only for my own reputation but for Hive in general if that were tolerated.

I think I understand where you're coming from, and I hope I have explained where I am coming from on your points. I'm a Hive witness and have been for a while, although I have not asked for votes in a while either.
