Do You Upvote Comments? .:. You should start doing it

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

If you are following my channel, you are probably aware that I like to engage with my readers/viewers... I like to discuss with you in the comment section different topics, about your concerns, and eventually, help you if I can... Also, working on the @Ourpick, I do the same thing with posts that I find interesting on Hive, where I always try to create meaningful comments on every post that I visit...

I remember when I came here for the first time... I was scared to create posts, and if I did it, I was hoping that nobody will check it... :) I was afraid that my content is stupid, poor, or that some people will not like it... Or even worse, that they will leave a comment on my posts! After almost 3 years, I know that some people don't like my posts where I say what I think about a certain topic... If my view is different than someone else's it hurts some people, but, that's not stopping me to share my story, my experience as there is always someone else who finds it helpful...

But, that's not today's topic... When I went through some phases, I was preaching about replying to the comments, and the importance of connecting with your audience... Hive isn't like a TV, where one person is talking and all the others are listening... Hive is a two-way street where you have a relationship with your audience and it has to be mutual respect between the two parties... I have noticed that more and more people are doing it right, chatting with their followers and showing respect...

But, can we do more for our viewers? Yes, we can! After the last HardFork, some great changes regarding comments have been implemented... There is no minimum value of 0.025$ for an upvote to be paid... There is no non-linear curation curve, and there is no advantage if some whale upvotes a certain post after you... You will not earn more because of that... Long story short, every Hiver is earning more-less the same curation rewards in whatever way it curates (upvotes) posts...

That has opened a huge door for all authors to show even more appreciation to their readers... Now you can freely upvote comments on your posts without the fear of "losing money"... In that way you are putting money where your mouth is, in your followers, your audience that is consuming your content, and probably upvoting it bringing you financial benefits...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

I upvote comments because I want to show appreciatiion for people engaging on my posts.

That's the correct mindset! I got aware that many people are reading my posts, but don't leave the comment, but I didn't know that at the beginning when I needed to know... To keep me motivated to create more... It also works in the opposite way, if the author upvotes and replies to the comment, it shows to his audience that it cares about them, and it's there for them... ;)

Yes, it is very motivating to see those comments. I like using Engage because I can see all the comments in one place and am less likely to miss answering them. Have a great Saturday and keep up your awesome work!

Well, you can do it with smaller percentages... That is still a good "signal" of appreciation... But, I do get your point, especially knowing how much you engage with people on Hive...

Thanks for all your hard work with curation and motivation!!!

It is rare that I do not upvote comments on my own post or a reply to a comment that I made on someone else's post. I consider it an acknowledgement of their value and time they spent reading my post. I remember back a few months ago when I was engaging in a certain community and leaving comments on various post about the topics and did not receive very many upvotes on my comments. It made me feel like I wasted my time leaving a comment since it was not acknowledged. I do not want anyone that leaves me a comment to feel like that.

I consider it an acknowledgement of their value and time they spent reading my post.

Exactly! And you gave the perfect example of how it works in real life! If you don't get acknowledge that your comment is "seen", then what's the point in leaving it in the first place? Comments are there to give a different perspective to the topic and to enrich it...

I agree. I do spend time commenting whenever I find a topic of interest. When I teach others, I tell them that commenting also counts as content creation. But, the reality is, we need comments to encourage good creators to continue their work. This way they know that they are doing a good job.

I tell them that commenting also counts as content creation.

Definitely! There are many great comments out there that beat the content (post) itself! You can leave so much value with comments, not just to the author, but also to other readers!

And it is an encouragement for continuing with content creation and additional motivation!

Yes, I am always upvoting meaningful comments. Well, sometimes the not so meaningful ones too. What I like to do recently is make a guessing game, or question, or similar in my posts, so where the readers would engage and have more fun. Then, apart from a nice upvote, if there is the right answer, I leave a small tip too on that comment.

Creating a guessing game, giveaways, polls is an awesome way to engage with your audience! And when you "make them comment", you punish them by upvoting them! 😀

As you say, many technical improvements were made on the last HF

Comments rewards are much more attractive now than before...

Yes, these changes improved interaction on the blockchain... I saw many cases where people who engage and comment earn more by doing that than with "regular" posts creation!

I also like to upvote comments on my post as well as comments I like on other people's posts.

Perhaps if more people realized they could scroll through "comments" and "replies" via the dropdown menu below their username, or on their wallet page, more people might upvote comments...

Oh, yes... That's my regular link that I visit multiple times per day... Upvote all comments and after that go to every single one to reply!

Thanks for this reminder! I hope that more people will get aware of that!

I always forget about upvoting the comments from the folks that I am interacting with. I am guilty of this and will do better.

Thank you for reminding me on this one, I just randomly saw this video and I am glad that I did!

I don't know which front-end do you use, but when I'm on Peakd, I click on "Replies" in the menu, upvote all comments, and then open all links to reply on them... In that way, I don't miss almost any... ;)

Thanks for checking out my post! Appreciate it!
