Ushuaia

Today I wanted to share with you some pictures I took while trail-running in Ushuaia. This place in particular is called Emerald Lagoon and is about 15km from Ushuaia city, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.

It's a 5km trail in which you start from National Route #3 and start getting into the forest of lengas and ñires, which are two of the most typical tree species that can be found in the Patagonia Argentina.

Getting started

thumbnail_IMG_5296.jpg

I arrived there quite early, about 8am so that I could spend as much time as I wanted in the lagoon. I went there during summer time in December, that sunrise is about 4.30am and sunset is about 10pm, but in winter times you're told not to get into the trail past midday as it might get dark too soon and it's somehow dangerous.

I didn't find this trail that difficult, but it's recommended not to go on your own... even it was highly discouraged to do it, I went on my own 🤣 I wanted to go running and mostly all guides walk at a very slow pace, so there was no chance I was doing it with someone.

As soon as I started, there was some snow at the beginning of the trail and everything was wet and muddy. Way too muddy.

Lost in the forest

As I said, the entire forest is of lengas and ñires, they are really really tall trees that give the forest a magical and mystical look. Did I get lost? Yes, one or two times, lol. Still, it was really easy to follow, as the path was marked with blue dots that were done in the different trees.

As the previous day had been raining, it was quite muddy and there were some parts in which I couldn't run at all, as there was a high risk of falling down...

Out of the 5km, almost 1.5km were inside this forest. It was really beautiful!

Out, in the middle of nowhere

This was the view as soon as you stepped out of the forest, you could see snowed hills that were surrounding the trail. The temperature was quite low at that point, I was running all dressed up and had to pick up a tree branch to sort out some of the small pounds that were all around.

thumbnail_IMG_5305.jpg

"Small" pounds all the way and water streams were part of the landscape as well!

thumbnail_IMG_5307.jpg

At that point, my phone wasn't working anymore, so it was all up to me to find the way to the lagoon and back 🤣. That was past halfway since I had started the trail, only 2km to reach the lagoon.

Almost there!

thumbnail_IMG_5325.jpg

A very big water stream led the way to the lagoon. I can't explain how relaxing and beautiful that way! Just to hear the sound of the water running, being in the middle of nowhere and having the chance of running was almost like heaven to me.

It had started raining and there was a very light snow as well, it went incredibly cold up there. Incredibly cold, I had never run in such low temperatures. Still, I was enjoying it a lot, it was just a couple more metres before reaching the lagoon.

Emerald Lagoon

Despite the fact that the weather was really bad, it was such a lovely place.

It was all worthy to get there and I spend a great time having something to eat before facing another the 5km challenge and just enjoying the sounds of nature, the wind and the freezing temperatures... I even made a little friend! 🥰

And that's me on the left, all happy and freezing... and about to fall down 🤣

This is a more professional photo of the lagoon, that of course wasn't taken by me:

Ushuaia

Me perdí?
