History
It is a historical fact that the shotgun was introduced in Japan by the Portuguese during the 16th century. Fernão Mendes Pinto, who also passed through the country, pertinent that he was one of those Portuguese.
There is no certainty as to whether Fernão Mendes Pinto really participated in the introduction of the shotgun in Japan, but he says, in his book - A Peregrínio, that he was one of the Portuguese who took the first of these weapons to the island.
The shotgun changed the way of fighting in Japan, unbalanced the images present and ended years of civil war between feudal lords.
In Japan the shotgun is known as - Tanegashima, the name of the island where it was first introduced, when a ship with Portuguese people there offers shelter from a storm in 1543.
