The Examination

The tension in the room was so intense that anyone who walked in at that moment could feel it. Everyone had sweat pouring out of their sweat pores as they remained focus on the piece of paper in front of them. The environment wasn't hot so the sweat wasn't because of the temperature outside, it was because of the one inside.

Henry was sweating the most. He had not been able to write a single thing aside from his name since the examination started forty-five minutes ago. He focused his gaze on the supervisor as the woman walked up and down the hall. He needed to make sure she wasn't watching for him to bring out the tiny piece of paper that contained answers that he had smuggled into the exam hall.

He had been watching her for ten minutes straight and yet had not had the balls to bring it out. The exam was meant to last for an hour and half and Henry knew he was running out of time fast. One last glance at the supervisor and Henry decided it was now or never. So he dipped his hand into his breast pocket and quickly brought out the piece of paper.

With shaky hands, Henry tried his best to write as much as he could. With every word he wrote, he took a glance back to make sure he wasn't been watched but just as he tucked the paper away, he heard something that froze him.

“Hey you there, stand up! What is that you have with you?” the supervisor asked and for a minute Henry wished the ground would open up and swallow him. He could feel the whole class gaze at him as he slowly stood up.

“You, I'm talking to you at the front. Get up!” The supervisor continued as she walked past Henry. “Why are you standing, are you done?” She asked, looking at Henry and stretching out her hand to collect his paper.

“Ye..yes ma'am. I'm done” Henry answered as he immediately handed his answer booklet to her. As he walked out of the hall, he watched the supervisor hand over the malpractice form to the guy she had early asked to stand. Henry thanked his God as he immediately headed home, signing that malpractice form meant he would be reporting to the deans office for severe punishment.

Eight years later and Henry still couldn't forget that day. The day his heart almost stopped beating. He smiled as he looked at the teens sweating profusely as they attempted his questions. Eight years ago he was the one answering the questions, today he was the one setting them.
