Bad Cat

Cats have always dominated the animation genre, if not the central character, somewhere in the movie it will come out with its hypnotic eyes and never-failing purring to grab the attention or say, own the show. But not our Bad Cat, not our Shero; the cat with infinite desire to be intimate with all the charming female cats out there and bullying other cats in his territory.

The most unusual thing that makes Shero different from other cats in the movie as well as the entire cat characters in other movies is the gruesome face with unrealistic but tough expression. Remember Garfield— the laziest cat? He was the most deformed cat I have seen in animations, but the Bad Cat cat is something else.

Again, the cat gang in the Puss in Boots or the drunken cowboy cat in Rango, nothing beats our hero in regards to violence, love, parenting, or even getting drunk or calling names. And when it comes to playing the playboy role or courtship, I have never seen any cat being so straightforward and influencing as Shero.

To me, the whole animation genre is categorised into two— those with fabulous graphics and those with poor. If the graphics are overwhelming, I would give it a try even if the story is not so well, but bad graphics make me abandon it instantly even if, say, it’s from marvel.

Bad Cat has made a lasting impression on my mind— not for the story but for the detail it offers through scrutiny. There are some flaws, but still, I don’t expect a cutting-edge output from a Turkish movie where the budget doesn’t even come close to an above-average Hollywood action film. Overall, the plot will put a smile on your face from the first to last, but you will barely laugh out loud unless you are, well, some sort of sadist — my apologies if this makes you feel bad but it is what it is.

Talking about the flaws, let me start with the voice artists.

Voice doesn’t match the characters’ persona, irrelevant as a cat, mouse, or a bird…..unnecessirily loud and rude, and mostly constant shouting doesn’t make sense for a zombie-like cat. Also, the scene of returning from death is too unrealistic even for an animation movie. The creepy brain of the owner of the dead cat is not enjoyable at all and I think not suitable for children. Also, I am sure you don’t want your children to watch cats smoking cigarettes too often and with royalty like the cat in the movie— not to mention the way they deal with booze and stealing, bank robbery, and bullying whoever it may be. Respecting the elders— nah, Shero doesn’t know how to do that.

On top of that, our central character has a foul mouth— in fact, it’s as foul as one can imagine which doesn’t go side by side with a cat or say, a fun-filled and could-be-a-family movie. Overall, the story is, um, quite good but fast, amusing yet not awe-inspiring, compact but not so tight— and the violence and overly used F word is something that will make you uncomfortable watching it with your family. So, I would give it a 3, perhaps 5 ratings if you ask me to watch it with my children but the movie deserves a 7+ rating if you are to enjoy it alone or with like-minded friends.

So, are you giving it a try? Meh— I don’t care. :v :p
