Fidi Dido

Don't confuse it with the famous 7up doodle, cause it's nowhere near it. Also, a google search won't be of any help, trust me only a selected few know about it. So, if you are interested in learning what that blabbing title is, hear it out from me. But don’t be surprised if I say it's about grasshopper 🦗.

It really is.

The verbose introduction may seem redundant and already proved to be uninteresting by now— I know, but it never gets old to me.

My little daughter has named it so, after watching the animated cartoon "the grasshopper and the ants" on YouTube. Our famous procrastinator, Mr grasshopper is one of a kind— spends a good time singing, relaxing, and sightseeing. Oh and, preaching life doesn't have to be hard all along, you gotta relax when it demands.

But poor ants, they don't listen to him. They love to work. They work for the future— for the tough times ahead. Mr grasshopper, he doesn't think much about the future and intends to be merry while it's shining bright. And we all know the outcome, how the story ended.

The story teaches us a good lesson but I am not sure if my little baby gets it at all— well, she doesn't need to be, I don't want her to face the harsh reality of life, not while I am breathing. But we can't say what's coming— so, I think she must know what brings what—not necessarily she has to experience it all in reality.

So, about Fidi Dido

Mr grasshopper sings a song in the cartoon and this particular phrase is a chorus sort of thing. It's kind of rhythmic and perhaps that's why she picked it out of the whole song. Even though she knows that insect is named grasshopper, she insists on calling it by fidi dido— and I don't want her to correct the term. She is a kid and she should have something to fantasise— fidi dido is among them followed by her excessive fascination with anything pink— a very girly thing you may say: a discourse that society has created so passionately. If she demands a gun following her brother, it has to be pink— this often makes my day when I hear such pinkish requests.

Okay, it's been raining the last few days, making insects move from their hideouts. Luckily, my residence happens to be on the side of an abandoned open space. Not abandoned actually, sold but no building yet.

So, I must say I am privileged to enjoy the last of the fresh air, bright sunlight, and chilling rain drops without disruption. Now that those places are left unattended, there are grasses all over— a perfect hideout for insects and alike. The recent downpour is causing them to migrate to a dry place and right now, I am overwhelmed by the number of unwelcomed guests— of them, lots of fidi didos; they don’t mind jumping around but we do.

My daughter is scared of them even after being a fan of cartoon fidi dido— so, she screams whenever any of them come in sight. She often screams for help when it is on her way and I like it most when she says— look, another fidi dido is here, drive it away— it’s that weird name that delights me most coming from her mouth and it won’t get old, I believe. The feeling— it’s divine :)
