Living the Life

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God's handwriting.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

From the tiny dew drop in the autumn morning to the devastating wind of a stormy summer, nature has the power to influence our lives in every imaginable way. Dive into the natural elements and you will find how amazing they are— be it a crawling spider or a flying insect.

A few days back, I was sitting idle in the backyard, looking straight at the trees around with no particular aim but to pass the moment. Suddenly there was a spider in the hand, a tiny one with vibrant colours on its back and legs. I looked closely and putting me in surprise, the glossy back of the spider changes the shades as it moves— much like a tinted pair of glass that reflects on the sunlight and puts a nice display as the angle changes. I thought of capturing a photo of this little fella but abandoned the thought as it will kill the vibe of the moment and probably it will go away while I set the macro lens right.

I was amazed to see it crawling through my fingers with its gentle but ticklish feet, peeking from one fingertip to another and trying to create a web to land safely on the ground. Spiders making webs, you won’t know how creative it is unless you look closely to it. The fishermen of the air, spiders shoot those silken strands maintaining consistency. Each of the strands is adjoined to a point equally distanced and finally forms an unusual but precision engineered shape with the spider at the center.

Some species create stronger webs capable of trapping even tiny birds. But this little fella has no intention to kill a bird, nor does it has the capability. It will be overjoyed if its web reaches the surface, which is a few feets to the least.

That tiny spider made it worthwhile, but there was a time they used to scare me a lot. I guess we all have that moment in our life when we didn’t forget to scream at the first sight of a spider crawling in our clothes or even marching towards us. And for a good reason. With their weird legs surrounding the dark body, spiders are spooky creatures and usually a sign of abandonment or negligence. But this one was different. As I have said it was as colourful as it can be, who knows if it can scare a kid.

Living in the village has its perks— only if you are exposed to the monotony of city life. Not that you can see the first light in the morning brightening up the dew-soaked sparkling leaves instead of rooftops, but these fascinating insects— they are lovely. Sometimes I spare a few moments to listen to them, trying to differentiate one from another by their sounds but in vain. They are so many in numbers that you will lose count or if you are in good mood, you will be lost in their call for life— which will be taken over by a different group of insects once it’s midnight. But it will never stop until the sun hits the ground, and the birds start chirping before they make their flight for the long day ahead. With the daylight, a new era begins— an era mostly synonymous with desolation; for that specific night-crawling species. Nature is amazing, indeed.
