Thanks to a gutsy go-ahead three-pointer by Japan #27 Saki Hayashi with 16 seconds left in the game, Japan defeated Belgium to reach the Olympic women's basketball semifinals for the first time.

Japan #27 Saki Hayashi decisive 3-pointers that defeated Belgium. She scored nine points with three 3-pointers and two rebounds.

"I believe it was a survival game. Finally, the top players gave their best, but we were able to battle together in the end " Japan #0 Moeko Nagaoka, who scored four points in 11 minutes off the bench for Japan, remarked.

"Now that we know Japanese basketball can work, we want to play our own game and do everything we can to win a gold medal."

Japan #52 Yuki Miyazawa scored 21 points with all seven 3-pointers, three rebound, two assist and three steals.

Belgium #11 Emma Meesseman scored 25, followed by Belgium #5 Kim Mestdagh 24 points, Belgium #55 Julie Allemand 11 points and Belgium #6 Antonia Delaere 10 points.
