Suriname | Even More Uncertain Economic Times Ahead Or Just Temporary?

It seems semi-economical turmoil is developing in Suriname. With a shortage of oil and the lack of a select few other common goods at reasonable price, part of the population has less and less financial breathing room. The current government is setting up days at the coalition party's location when and where anyone who wants it can get certain necessary goods for a cheaper price. Some at almost 25% percent of the "normal" store price.

In the picture above, which I took from the building I work at, you can see the main location with the orange rooftops. If you zoom in beyond the parking place you can see some light traffic waiting for their turn to either enter the premises or find a parking spot outside. I expected it to be busier. Then again, this picture was taken on Friday and they would be open on Saturday and Sunday as well, so possibly those days will be busier.

Or maybe people have already dealt with the main "vegetable cooking oil shortage problem" in their own way. In our own household we are embracing the alternatives like butter and margarine for cooking and frying purposes. Or at least that's the plan when the vegetable oil we have left runs out. I'm also not about to play along with the games the distributors of oil are playing. The shortage was for sunflower oil only, and yet to create a simulated shortage they have made the majority of the people believe that all cooking oil is scarce.

The previous government that has played a major role in current economic issues and scarcity also used to organize these kinds of locations where people can buy subsidized products, and the lines there used to be very long. The times are uncertain in the country. And the financial bomb that is ticking can possibly detonate at any moment if we're not careful. But if the current government plays its cards well, their plans might actually work.

That's a big IF, especially for me, since I don't like anything government related, not at all. But for the sake of the country, I have some hope. Even in a bad economy, personal finances can be managed. And if you can manage your household in bad times, you will definitely flourish in the good times.

Jup, that's the way to do it. If something doesn't expire fast, I tend to buy more than 1 of the item and store it in boxes. Whenever I have 1 left, I buy more. This way shortages don't have immediate effect on us.

The biggest scam in history, the government 😂 serious joke. In these times many are playing games to like their pockets, sad but it is seen as survival.

Whichever country you look at, they're corrupt. Some a little bit corrupt, those countries are flourishing. And some are blatantly stealing, those countries are heading for the ground.
