When You're On Hive All The Time | Mainstream Platforms Become Irrelevant

avatar

hiveaddicttion.jpg

I'm on Hive a few hours a day. And that number seems to be steadily increasing. Whether it be at home mainly, or at work, or wherever I can access the internet through my phone. I always find an opportunity to check my phone for comments and notification. In many regards compared to mainstream social media, Hive seems to have the same addictive effect. We as human beings are wired to seek out attention and validation, and we pretty much get "high" on the stuff. Well, most of us anyway. That's why most people are the way they are on any type of social media platform.

While I wasn't very active on other platforms, the effect of Hive has also been that I have almost completely abandoned using other platforms. The one platform I would be most active on was Facebook. Nowadays people send me messages to tell me to look at a certain post or that they tagged me in something. They already know I wouldn't see it otherwise. Or maybe I'd see it, but 3 months later.

I still use the mainstream platforms sometimes, but mostly for practical reasons. Commerce being one of them. Some platforms are still pretty good for buying locally made products or provided services. Like fish, plants, second hand electronics, etc. But usually once I have the number of someone trustworthy for the service needed, I won't resort to the digital marketplace anymore.

For those of us on Hive, other platforms are slowly being phased out naturally. While we adapt to decentralized media. We can discuss many arguments why, but it all boils down to one simple thought: decentralized is just better! And unless you're also earning on mainstream platforms, they are just time wasters, filled mostly with drama.

We are already part of the future. Early adopters and all. Addicted or not, it's probably not a bad thing anyway. Depending on the perspective. But it's definitely better than the mainstream alternative.

How are you treating your other social media accounts these days?

Electronic-terrorism, voice to skull and remote neural monitoring on Hive and Steem. You can ignore this, but your going to wish you didnt soon. This is happening whether you believe it or not. Many of the platforms for hive and steem are trying to silence me so they can do this to YOU. Please follow this link. This is a excellent ecosystem. You can buy all crypto here, write blogs, earn by trading. There's just lots to do !

Agreed, I find my self hating even twitter now, drama complaining about everything, even other crypto places I find myself just Lovin hive.

I tried torum and it's garbage, read and noise cash don't have that community feel hive has

Agreed there. I've hated the mainstream platforms for a while now, and now that I'm on Hive, I have little to no motivation to be involved with them in any fashion.

I did torum and read.cash for exactly one day and lost interest. Even noise.cash lost me at one point when the admins started policing the platform too much. It has potential, but not with centralized control. Did make about 0.1 BCH there though.

Torum is a hard one, read.cash is good for drop posts with 3speak links, I don't get many views but earn a few BCH to get into hive.

Noise ain't bad, I find it better to give the free tips than post

The same way I always have 😂They're getting neglected 🤣How did you find Hive?

!LOL

I created a Steemit account back in 2017, wrote two blog posts and lost interest.
During the height of the pandemic and all of it's lockdowns, I had to work from home during most of 2020. In that time I saw a friend of mine promoting a Hive post on FB.

After some research I realized Hive was a Steem fork and dug up my old key. Met some people here and have been blogging regularly ever since, almost 2 years now.

I concur, the value that I have found in Hive and the community here FAR exceeds anything I have found in the web2 platforms. I hate FB with a passion and only keep it now to touch base with old friends from time to time. Twitter is just one constant bitch-fest and echo chamber for people who aren't strong enough to think for themselves. I don't even bother trying any others because what's the point when I have this amazing ecosystem that I've grown to love so much?

Echo chamber is an interesting term to use. Especially since I always get a bit lost when trying to follow a twitter discussion or thread.

It's either a bunch of people with the same opinion complaining about something/arguing with a bunch of other people with a different opinion, or a bunch of mindless sheep marching to the beat of someone else's drum. Just feels like a giant circle jerk most of the time

The sheeple rule the world, as is dictated by democracy. !LOL

Lol, sheeple only rule as much as the wolves corralling them allow them to rule. Ultimately, they end up devoured anyway, but the believe they move on their own as they inevitably run to their demise.

. . . the effect of Hive has also been that I have almost completely abandoned using other platforms.

I think it is just normal to lose interest in a platform that is just wasting your time. If people will only realize that their time and attention can be incentivized, I think there will be a massive exodus from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.

Very well written; was such an easy read. Sometimes posts are so technical or the sentences and grammar too difficult, which makes reading unpleasant. I then need more time and focus to grasp what the writer is trying to share.

I sometimes try to write something exactly as how I would say or think it. This creates a more natural tone in the overall text. Don't overthink it. ;) !LOL

I have gotten off most other social media sites but I can't seem to stop myself from going to Youtube though. So I guess that is all there is to it. After all, you won't find a better place to both learn and earn.

YouTube is a tricky one of the bunch. It's still the best platform to get free tutorials for just about anything. And also a source of entertainment, especially if you choose not to have a TV at home like me.

I don't believe in buying cable or anything like that anymore. Internet is enough and I can find whatever I need online anyways.

I agree, since I started with Hive my time spending on Facebook has lowered significantly compared to before. I mean before every time I have spare time I would check on my Facebook feed and scan some posts but now it's the same but not with Facebook but with Hive. I mean I spend how many years posting on Facebook but I have never earned a dime. While here in Hive even though I'm not a good blogger or anything, I earn even a little on what I post which is great. I mean who doesn't want money eh?

Here in Hive you feel like being motivated to engage with other people coz they can upvote your comments and earn a little. So not just only posting but also commenting earn you some money. Now ain't that great?

Certainly great! Perfect even, to some. What also helped me make the switch mentally is removing the facebook app from my phone, and eventually replacing that with Hive based apps. In bored moments when waiting for things, I used to often go to the FB app to scroll by my feed, and now I'm on Hive instead.
