Insect Photography | Ebony Jewelwing

Today I am pretty lucky to have an object to photograph, which was an insect coming inside Kenred Coffee Shop. I was there sipping my morning coffee. I caught the insect and put it on a paper and started taking some pictures. All photos I took with a smartphone.

The insect is so interesting with almost all its body is black color. It’s so cute. It’s a variety of dragonfly, which later I search on Insect Identifier App to know more about it. So, I found the insect name is Calopteryx maculata which co called Ebony Jewelwing.

This insect is usually found on the bank of river or stream. And you know, Ebony Jewelwing has unnerving habit of turning their heads and watching their human observers. It is one of this insect fascinating qualities that has made it a favorite of many.Source

After taking some photos, then I released it outside the coffee shop. It flied away, then it perched on a twig.

I did not know this variety of dragonfly, which is very unique, as I have usually seen them with transparent or slightly iridescent wings. I am struck by that habit of turning its head to look at whoever is looking at it, it looks great .These photos are really nice, how nice that you have been gentle with it and released it into the wild. Best regards.

Dragonflies are very interesting and unknown insects, not everyone knows that they eat other insects, flies, mosquitoes, even butterflies. Thanks for sharing with the community.

Yeah. That’s very true. I found many colors and varieties of dragonflies. In fact, dragonflies is carnivore as well, as they eat their preys. :)
