Introducing Bradley

avatar

Hello,

My name is Bob Caine. I have been active on the Hive for about 2 years but I have never posted here on Ecency. I have read quite a few Ecency posts via ListNerds. The creators of those posts were very positive about Ecency and its features so I decided I needed to try it.

Today, I would like to introduce our new "puppy", Bradley. About a month ago, my wife got a call from a lady who works for her. The lady's daughter had found a puppy that need a home.

We already had one dog, Colonel, a mostly chihuahua 16 year old. We also baby sit my daughter's dog, Sarge, a mostly golden retriever who just turned 3. Monday through Friday. Sarge was originally ours but we gave him to our daughter because he liked to pick on Coronel. We also have a cat, Tiger Lily who is about 8.

Enough history, my wife and I discussed adopting Bradley and decided that would work. Bradley arrived late on a Thursday night. We had a vet appointment for him first thing Friday morning. No one had any idea how long he had been a stray. We wanted to get him checked out as soon as possible.

He got dropped off at the vets Friday morning and left for the day. My wife picked him up on her way home. No real surprises from the health side. Bradley had fleas, worms, mange, and ear infections. All easily treatable. The surprise was the vet's guess at his age. She said he is over a year old. He sure doesn't act it. She thought that because he had tartar on his teeth and that does not happen until a dog is 1+,

Before I go any further, I should explain Bradley's name. You probably notice the military rank theme with the other dogs' names. We wanted to stay with that theme but could not find a military rank that we liked as a name. So we named him after General Omar Bradley.

Now that we have had Bradley for a month he is all puppy. If something is moveable, it must be a toy. We also believe he has not been a stray his whole life. He knew how to sit and he gets in the backseat of the car as soon as you get in. He was taught that behavior. He also knew not to get on furniture but my wife has already taught him that he can. This turned him into a 50 pound lap dog. He love sleep in my wife's lap.

Bradley officially starts training next week. If you would like me to post about his training progress, Let me know in the comments.

See You At The Bank,
Bob Caine

P.S. I forgot to mention Sarge and Bradley are not getting along at all. More about that another time.

You should definitely post about Bradley's training! I'm such a sucker for dogs. I don't know if I ever said this about a dog but Bradley is actually looking very wise.

Love the family portrait, although I am happy being back to having just one dog myself.

Believe me I understand. Having two is keeping me hopping especially since Bradley thinks Colonel is a toy. Thank you for your comment.

we had a black lab for a number of years. He always thought of himself like a puppy. One of the smartest dogs I ever owned but would sometimes do stupid things. He never caught on to the idea that he was over 60 pounds, lol

Aw ... he's big, but he's cute ... Colonel and Sarge have a (Bradley) tank now to work with!

There are probably dog lovers communities on Hive that would love to know about this as well...

Ohhh, he's such a cutie! And rescue dogs are just the loveliest beings.
As if they know they're saved from a terrible life as a stray.
He's beautiful.
We were in Mexico for about 3 weeks when we adopted a stray.
Or better: He found us. He was living with us, while our own two dogs
hadn't even arrived yet! Unfortunately, he had the usual, like yours, as well
as some treatments were needed for heartworm, and some antibiotics, but when
we got him neutered, he got an infection and needed additional medication and
a trip to the vet every day almost.
His treatments cost me more than a full bred dog would have cost me, lol.

But it was worth it. He's an absolute sweetheart.

And please, post about his training, I'd love to read that.
Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful post man. Congrats on getting Bradley.

Sarge and Bradley are not getting along at all.

Hahaha, I'd love to hear about that.

Just a little tip, I think this post would fare a bit better in the hive pets community

Found this through listnerds

Congrats on the new family member!

He looks cute!

I haven't had dogs for years, I'm now more of a cat person unless it's the dog of someone else lol. I love petting them but I don't love the daily walks no matter what weather and I would not adopt a dog myself anymore for that reason.

Thanks for introducing him to us and yes I'd like to read more about the progress!

Enjoy and have a good Sunday!

Bradley is gorgeous and well done for adopting him. I'm a huge advocate of 'adopt don't shop'!
We have 2 rescue dogs and recently found another, well he found us. But this new one we have found a new loving home for him as 3 whilst travelling Mexico, is proving difficult.
