Giving is one of the best service you can give to humanity and man kind but most times the receiver always end up requesting for too much. Some receivers don’t have limit to what they can take. They take because it’s not coming from their pocket, some receivers feel too entitled to your money that they feel it’s their right to take from you. Especially when you are a cheerful giver with a weak spot for your family and friends, you find yourself finding it hard to say “No” to them. But to help you Better to say “No” always think about yourself, if you give all your money to them, always remember that it will never be enough for them and you won’t have anything left.

But if you are really a cheerful giver and can’t say “No” there are tips to help you give and still maintain some for yourself.

One of them is Always Do The Math. Before you go on your giving spree, do the math and try to check on how you can have a giving budget. Some people give without doing the math, and end up giving out their monthly upkeep budget because they didn’t keep track of how much they were giving. Calculate the amount you have, calculate the expenses you are going to spend for yourself and and see if you have an extra cash to spare after your personal budget. If you don’t have extra cash to spare after checking your budget, then this is the time to get selfish, Say That “NO”

If you do have an extra money to spare, and let’s say you are kinda the breadwinner in your family or the one to go person that people ask for money, you can have what is called a Gift fund. That is a budget set aside to give friends and family. But remember that receivers don’t have limit when receiving, the moment the gift fund budget finishes, please say “No”.

Responding Promptly is another tip I use to saying No. We as adult always need money, money is the reason we wake up everyday to grind and hustle. So having spare cash around without use is almost impossible. Sometimes friends and family can call you to lend them money, but because they are friends and family, you find it hard to say “No”. So what I do is respond promptly. Whenever I get asked for money, my first instinct and answer is “No I don’t have”. With this I have bought time to think about it without pressure, to know if i can actually lend that money or not. Because I had said I didn’t have the money, the person’s expectations on me has been eliminated, now I can think properly. If I can afford to lend the money to the person, I will but if I can’t, I will let it go.

Also, always remember that it’s your money and you don’t owe anybody any explanation. Some people try to give a long unnecessary story or explanation regarding their reason for not giving out the money. I find those unnecessary. If you have a family or friend that is always in need of money, or always borrows money without returning it, saying “No” to this person is the best and easiest thing you can do. You can always tell them “I’m sorry I can’t afford to give you money right now” or “I want to use the money”. You don’t have to explain yourself. If they feel entitled to your money and need explanation on what you want to do with your money, then that’s a red flag. Avoid that person because that person is ever ready to milk you dry.

Learn to not make giving out your money to family and friends a personal feeling. It’s good to give your loved ones. I see no reason why you should have a enough money to give and refuse to give. That’s not right, don’t try to make money giving emotional. Give them when you have while learning to set giving limitations.

The most important thing to remember is never discuss your financial activities with families. Avoid it totally, this is because family has a way of setting entitled budgets on your own money. Telling them when you have money and how much you make is a big mistake. Your financial activities is not anyone’s business.
