The Struggle Of A Nigerian Using The Binance App, Twitter and VPN

Hi guys, how are you all doing, it’s a good day today, spent sometime watching movies, loved the movie though. While watching the movie I felt it was time to check my trust wallet. I have gotten addicted to always checking my wallet, the Binance wallet used to be my most accessed app on my phone, till the Nigerian government decided to ban Twitter. Now we all have to use VPN to access and you can’t use Binance and VPN in my country.

Five months ago, the president of Nigeria made a tweet that seemed like a threat, this was against Twitter policy, this was one of the few times I found the centralized platform worthy of existence. The tweet was censored by Twitter because it came off violent and to be sincere it was violent, how can the president of a country threaten its citizens with violence. The tweet was censored and probably deleted. The president of the country threw a tantrum and got angry. Disregarding everything and decided to ban Twitter in Nigeria.

I kid you not, this action took 24 hours to be implemented. This just shows you how capable the government is but choose not to do what they are meant to do because it doesn’t favor them personally.

After 24 hours, Twitter was inaccessible, being in a country that has always seemed incompetent in implementing or taking actions in anything, I saw the ban as a joke. So I didn’t bother myself about it. I woke up the next morning and found out I couldn’t access Twitter anymore. I felt it was an internet issue and restarted my internet and phone so many times. I was so confused, I couldn’t explain the reason behind my inability to access Twitter but I could access other apps. It took me hours to remember that the government said it was going to ban Twitter.

Now I had to download VPN because am addicted to Twitter, that’s where I get my news and entertainment videos from. I can’t stay a day without using Twitter, I feel am missing out on interesting gossips on the timeline. But then I heard you can’t use Binance while your VPN is active. Binance is going to detect an unusual activity, because using VPN changes the location of your IP address. Your account can get blocked, and God knows how long it will take for the Binance Support team to attend to your issue. I have stories of people that ended up losing their accounts completely because of that. This is something that is really devastating, Binance is my bank and has almost all the coins I have in this life, losing your account is losing everything you have ever worked for. I use Binance’s P2P to buy and sell my coins. So I can’t afford to lose my Binance account.

But at the same time I can’t afford to not use Twitter, that’s where I get my information and entertainment from. Hmmm 🤔, tough decision, so I decided to risk it this way.

Due to the fact that I was addicted to using Twitter and Binance before the ban, I find myself unconsciously entering those app. After I had spent few minutes on the app, I will come back to the state of awareness asking myself, “Why did I enter this app?”.

This means that if my VPN is on, and I access my Binance unconsciously, that’s bye bye to my Binance account.

We know that the smart phone isn’t called smart phone for no reason. So I decided to make use of the smartness of the Smartphone. I use an iPhone and in the settings you can turn off internet access to certain apps. This mean that when turned off, the app can’t access the internet. All you have to do is go to settings, go to mobile data, go to the Binance app and turn it off. This allows me to put on my VPN and access Twitter every time.

This has helped me so many times because I have entered my Binance app unconsciously and due to the fact that my Binance app didn’t have access to the internet, my account was not blocked. So that was one problem that was fixed. But the second is the mental stress in always cross checking your VPN and Binance app properly before using it. Whenever I want to make a trade, I turn off my VPN, I go to my settings turn on the mobile data access to my Binance app, come back to my VPN, cross check it properly to make sure it’s turned off. Go to Twitter and check if I could access it, if I couldn’t, then my VPN is truly off. Then I go back to my Binance, make my trade and come back to turning the mobile data off again.

The constant use of VPN on my phone has made me change my battery. Apparently using VPN kills your battery. My battery got spoilt and I had to change it and that cost me $40.

Getting a laptop is the only option I have right now for smooth trading and Twitter access. But due to scale of preference with money utilization, getting a laptop is not in my budget. This has been my struggle for the past 5 months using these three apps.

I do make a lot of mistakes and would accidentally get in trouble, so I kept a low profile until the ban is taking off. Definitely I will end up using binance and twitter together if I tried it.

Men I make this mistake all the time, then I immediately close my Binance app so I don't lose my account.
