Three Splinterland Suggestions (11/20/2022)

avatar

Howdy folks I hope you are all having a wonderful day. Today I'd like to go over some Splinterland suggestions that I think would benefit not only the game but the players as well. If you have some suggestions of your own feel free to let everyone know what they are below in the comment section. Who knows someone might be reading that sees your suggestion who is a decision maker within the game and that just might get the ball rolling for your suggestion to be implemented. Without further ado here are three Splinterland suggestions in which I think would benefit everyone.

(1) Team USD Value Shown

This is an idea that has been floated around and suggested by more than myself. Every now and then someone brings it up and it becomes a small talking point. That suggestion is to show our teams USD value in battle. For example below we see a Dragon Summoner and three Monsters. Animated Corpse: $0.30 USD, Undead Priest $3.67 USD, Skeleton Assassin $0.87 USD and Daria Dragonscale $14.44 USD. Which brings us to a total of $19.28 USD. Values recorded as listed price on the date of 11/20/2022. The opposing teams value would also be shown.

(2) Multi Rent Option

Currently if we want to rent directly from the Splinterlands site we need to list our cards one at a time. For those who hold multiple cards in which they wish to rent at the same price this can be a pain. Luckily we have secondary markets such as PeakMonsters in which has endless amount of cool features for our rental needs. However I believe its time to add some convenience features to the Splinterlands Rental market. I see no reason why Splinterlands can't allow for multi card select for those wanting to list multiple cards for rent. They can keep it to the same edition and minimize to 10/20/50 selections at a time. Even at just ten at the same time would be a big help and time saver. Not to mention this ease of use addition will likely help bring Splinterlands more rental revenue as it will likely increase the number of card holders who rent directly with them instead of with second/third party marketplaces.

(3) Bonus Pack Adjustment

Looking at the bonus pack deals for purchasing Booster Packs directly from the Splinterlands site I can't help but think there is an easy way to increase pack sales and pack distribution with minimal negative impact on players who already purchased. Currently the standard bonus structure for bonus packs when purchasing in bulk is 10% bonus for 100 Packs, 15% bonus for 500 Packs and 20% bonus for 2000 Packs. It would be a difficult sell to get the Splinterlands community to accept an adjustment in price for packs in the middle of a sale so that is not what I'm suggesting. What I'm suggesting is something I think we all can benefit from. Drop the 20% bonus requirement down to 1000 Packs. Leave the other two as is. This would be an easy way to encourage sales. This would mean the jump from a 500 pack purchase to a 1000 pack purchase will bring the purchaser an extra 5% bonus. This makes it very (VERY) tempting for anyone who is purchasing 500 packs to jump up to the 1000 Pack level. As is one needs to purchase an additional 1500 packs to jump to the top bonus level. At times when pack sales are flying off the self the current structure is OK but if you want to entice sales you need to dangle a carrot in peoples faces and dropping the 20% bonus to 1000 purchase packs will likely do just that.

Team value is interesting. I don't know about the rental changes. Feels a little like google copying all the start up tech companies ideas. Give the third parties some room to grow. Or maybe not lol. I've never bought packs in bulk so I don't know about the last one. For a suggestion of my own, maybe matching for battles could be improved. Right now its just based on current ranking I think. So if you are playing gold, sometime you run into a really powerful player that hasn't leveled up yet this season. Maybe you could match based on rank and then on deck power to keep matches a bit more even.

I don't believe multi selection for rentals was just a secondary market idea. It came together many moons ago in MAV chat but it was decided the Splinterlands team had other priorities at the time so it was best left to secondary markets to implement. If memory serves me correctly the team was just a handful people at the time. Team value would be fun. I would imagine lots of brag posts would flood the blockchain and possibly outside of it showcasing ones team value or lack there of when beating a team of high USD value. Thanks for adding your own suggestion. Rank matching could use some work.

That is a popular suggestion that has been brought up a time or two.

I believe we have a Black Friday event that is currently in discussion phase.

Great suggestions. The first is the one I like the most. So one could see if he is wasting money or if he is just a bad player.

I can see where the USD thing would appeal to some people but I think overall there's no better way to say this game is about the money you spend than to tell everyone how much it would cost to replicate someone else's game. And if you're new and constantly getting beat by expensive decks, you'd probably be more likely to quit in frustration before getting better at the game, and if you're at a high level, who cares when everyone owns the same cards anyway?. Plus that person could have rented that $3000 deck that just stomped you for .03 which makes the deck value irrelevant. Maybe I'm missing the point but I can see that doing a lot more harm than good. I think it would be a great option for one of these battle tracking sites as a piece of data brut I'd hate it during the game.

My understanding of the rental market is that it was mostly designed and developed by peakmonsters. I assumed Splinterlands kept their version very simple on purpose so peakmonsters and third parties would be compensated. Also to encourage an ecosystem to grow up around the game. I think growing the ecosystem is the a big reason they are making nodes. I would be on board with a small amount of multiselect though. One at a time is just silly. Also, peakmonsters numbers have been off lately so I always have to go check the prices on splinterlands website anyway before I put something up for rent. I've told them about it multiple times but they don't seem to care. It's been broken for 3 months.

There's a lot I'd like to see but one place where they can set themselves apart on rentals without stepping on toes of their ecosystem is by allowing a rental during team selection. At the top of the screen it can show a few popular cards for this ruleset or for your summoner the you don't have and give you the price and option to rent the card. It could also put a price to rent on starter cards so you have the option. I think it would get more people trying out more cards and boost the rental market, which would boost the whole card market.

Another thing I'd love to see is planned price drops on packs. Each month they release a set number of packs from the current set. The first month packs are like $25 but they only release like 100k. Second month they release 200k at $20. By the last months they sure releasing higher amounts at $4. Each month the packs are only on sale for the first 15 days. Anything that doesn't get sold gets taken off the market at that price and put into a permanent stock priced at $25 anyone can buy at any time until they're gone even if it takes years to sell out. They can make far more per release while releasing fewer packs and every 15 days is an event. The set stays interesting all year. Instead of airdrops they could just release a new card each month into the packs.

The reason I had in mind is it would give players something to look forward to as they build their decks. Similar to how low stake poker players watch as the high stakes players battle it out dreaming about the day they build their stack up high enough to join. It would also show skill can trump $$$$.

You are right, I 'm almost 100% certain that Splinterlands doesn't want to step on the toes of the secondary and third marketplaces. I agree that a small amount of selection would be ideal. That would leave the secondary sites still being the place with the better features.

Another thing I'd love to see is planned price drops on packs. Each month they release a set number of packs from the current set. The first month packs are like $25 but they only release like 100k. I had a similar idea but in reverse. For Chaos Legion I suggested the first couple million be sold for the $2 price mark and then X Million be sold for $3 and then X million be sold for $4 and then the last millions sold for $5. This would cause all sorts of FOMO as no-one will want to miss out on the cheaper packs. Think end of set FOMO but instead of just at the end of each set it would be at the end of each Tranche. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on my suggestions and for providing suggestions of your own.

Great stuff!! I posted two suggestions so far and one even got implemented. I'm just not sure whether it got implemented because of my suppestion or the suggestion just got checked after it got implemented anyway some month after giving reason. You'll find this through Splinterland's feedback frontend when you click on my profile on the other idea, that is not implemented yet. And that is about brawl management at https://feedback.splinterlands.com/1430

The first two just seems like good things for people who don't use the secondary markets but I am not sure about the third one. I would prefer your change though because it's a bit too expensive to get so many packs.
