RELIEF

This vessel "Relief" is propped up underneath Granville Bridge in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

This vessel was built in 1929 and served as a fishing vessel as well as a "rumrunner" in its day. It is believed that Relief harvested nearly 3 million pounds of salmon throughout its life. Totalling a capacity of 26000 lbs per trip!

There are stories of its time as a rumrunner taking alcohol to the USA and eastern Canada during prohibition. At one point, Relief was on the receiving end of machine gun warning fire from the US Coast Guard. After this happened, the crew headed to western Canada to fish its well-stocked waters.

After spending much of its existence travelling around both coasts, it now sits on stilts at Granville Island for people to enjoy as they pass by.
