# 966 - Canadian Wildlife - Part 46

avatar

Today we will continue the series called "Canadian Wildlife".

The Royal Canadian Mint is known by its high quality work and the enormous number of commemorative coins issued each year. Among these commemoratives we find many, individual or in series, under the theme "wildlife".

Canada, with its vast lands and seas, is the home of a varied fauna and that will be showed in this series.

I will try to post land animals, sea animals and birds, in that order.

The fourty sixth is a 2015 CAD $20 "Imposing Alpha Wolf".

In 2015 the Royal Canadian Mint issued a series called "Majestic Animals".

Each one was a 2015 $20 CAD, weighting 31.39g (1.01oz) with 99.99% silver purity and Colored Proof finish.

This is the last coin of the series: "Imposing Alpha Wolf".
Its mintage was 6,498 units and the issue price was $99.95 CAD.

Guardian of its territory, the wolf (Canis lupus) is a fearless hunter that relies on its remarkable intelligence, its keen senses, and a pack mentality to maintain its reputation as an apex predator.
It also plays an important role in the biodiversity of the remote areas it inhabits, from Labrador to British Columbia and north.

The reverse image by Canadian artist Maurade Baynton features a lone wolf (Canis lupus) rendered in striking detail, which affords us a unique close-up view of the wolf’s characteristics.
Here, our fearless hunter is perched on a rocky slope and holds its steely gaze as it surveys its remote territory and the horizon beyond the image field.
The application of selective colouring allows the viewer to glimpse the wolf’s fine features and its handsomely coloured fur that allows this fearless carnivore to blend in with its surroundings.
Behind the wolf, a mountain range looms over the river that winds through the forest valley below, with tall timbers that only add to the majesty of this natural setting.

Thanks for showing us the valuable Silver Stack, ronavel. I have been on the lookout for Silver Coins/Rounds with the $20 denomination, at the Local Coin Shop. Haven't found any yet.

If you are in Canada, you will find them easily. In US or other countries, you have a very small chance to find them.

Wolves have always fascinated me. I knew a girl once who had a part wolf dog. He was very protective of her and loyal, but I also know that the wild side of them can return at any given time, and they can possibly turn on you.

That is a beautiful coin with nicely done details and coloring. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day!

I've not read that so you'll have to tell me why. Is the wolf a bad thing on Game of Thrones?
