The barber shop

Well, unlike every other day where I get to go out of the office to run different errands, I've actually been in the office all day attending to patients as politely as I can. I guess it women's day and I'm been given a treat. 😅

Some few hours ago, two beautiful ladies on neat hair cut just left the lab feeling relieved and excited. They had both come for a test to check their HIV status, and you could tell that they both were convinced they were positive. While they sat and waited patiently for their results, I couldn't help but overhear their conversation.

They were both discussing about a lady from their hostel, who they recently heard has HIV. According to their story, the lady had claimed to had gotten it from the barbing salon she went to get a haircut from some few months back and she was sure about this because she have this rule of doing a check up every three months, it was a routine for her.

The lady had claimed that when she went to cut her hair, she went with a male friend of hers, and that after her friend had finished shaving, the barber had forgotten to sterilize the clipper, the same he used for her friend and he had just continued using it on her.

She also didn’t remember to remind him to sterilize the blade because she thought he did because that’s what every barber does, so while he was cutting her hair and mistakenly cut her with the clipper, she didn’t think much about it until three months after when she went for her usual checkup and that was when she received the shocking news of being HIV positive.

She tried to remember how and where she could have gotten it and nothing came to mind until she confided in her friend, the same male friend who had gone to the salon with her, and that was when he told her he was positive himself.

It didn’t take long for her to put one plus one together and discover where she had gotten the virus from. She had immediately gone over to the salon and threatened to have the barber arrested. It was during all that commotion that the two ladies at my lab heard the story and quickly rushed down to the lab to know their fate. They too cut their hair at the same salon.

The smiles on their faces as they both left is one I probably won’t be forgetting in a while. It’s a sad thing the other lady had to pay for the barbers carelessness.
