the benefits paying off are a massive boost to even go in way deeper, I know of someone who recently bought a land, lands are coveted because they're scarce, they play a huge role to the SPS drop as well as futuristic modifications to the game.
The gamification has just begun - I am sure, more and more rich hands will be joining soon.

That's definitely true. Splinterlands staying relevant would probably be the most important thing. Keeping that value and attracting external investors as well.
