My fair lady
Have you read the book by George Bernard Shaw - The Pygmalion?
If you have not, then please do try to because it is a very interesting read, trust me and there is also a movie based on it - My fair lady, starring - Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison.
I have watched the movie too. It is a brilliant adaptation and does justice to the book which often others don't. I say this because I felt that the Harry Potter series didn't do much to recreate the magic that JK Rowling had weaved but I guess it is impossible to include every detail.
Back to Pygmalion, I loved how Eliza was portrayed by Audrey Hepburn. She has completely overshadowed everyone else in the movie according to my opinion. During those times, it was indeed good to have a movie devoted to a lady actor to that extent because as we know, even now, lady actors are not given much importance in most movies especially those that require action. Women are just used to cause distraction or please the male audience. There are exceptions of course.
Professor Higgins takes it upon him to reform the girl from the gutter and turn her into a society lady just to win a bet but he never thinks of what would become of her later on and where she would go after he lost his fancy.
Shaw has however made it so that Higgins realized that he couldn't do without Eliza and even though she declared she would marry another, he laughs at the idea. In the movie, Eliza returns to him, and he doesn't change the way he treats her.
