CHILD GENDER DISCRIMINATION....

Hello fam πŸ€—, it's really been a long time since I've been really active on this platform and I must must confess, I miss "WRITING" πŸ™ˆ.

Something happened twice during this week on different occasions which got me really thinking if this still happens in our world of today. I'm referring to "Child Gender Discrimination". So, I decided to write about it.

So this is one of the occurrences; There's this man, a father of 3 (2 boys and 1 girl), he loves his boys to the extent that he had practically shared the children's responsibility between him and his wife. Anything that concerns the boys are his business but that of the girl is the mother's business. Why??, Because he's being GENDER BIASED.

He treats the female child like she's not his and this saddens my heart alot. He had even told the pregnant wife that if she gives birth to a female child again, he won't hesitate to send her packing with her so called child (female) not children, all because he wanted his children to be all boys so they can keep on the family's name.

This brings me to discussing about the Female Child in Nigeria. In terms of opportunities for education, food, and nutrition, girls face discrimination in Nigeria. Housework and farm labor place a significant load on girls. Young girls are married off at a young age, which impedes their education or ability to learn survival skills. The significance of girl children must be reframed in our cultural beliefs. You'd see female Children attend school, assist with household chores, work in factories, develop friends, look after elderly and younger family members, and prepare themselves for adult duties at a very young age. The household, community, and economy all have multiple duties for girls to fill. Which to me, seems quite unacceptable.

I know there have been some measures of improvements and also some organisations and programs had been established to fight for any girl child that's is going through one challenge or the other. But what about our mindset towards this issue. So many people especially men still feel incomplete when their wives do not birth a male child or enough male children, they tend to go extra miles to have what they want.

Parenting a female child is not only by giving birth to her, I believe it's by helping her grow, believing in her and helping her to become the best version of herself.

Love & Light ✌️
