Crab Of The Woods
Hello funghi lovers! 📷 😎 🍄 📷
I have to say that I'm a fungi lover, but more in the culinary sense, so we usually pick mushrooms to either dry them or cook them and then serve them as a dish on a plate :)
Anyway, I came across an interesting mushroom on my walk and of course, took some photos.
I found it not in the woods but practically in the middle of the city, in the garden of the MKNŽ club, where in summer and autumn there are usually various events, including rock concerts.
I think it's a tree mushroom because it grows on a tree.
To give you an idea of the size of this mushroom, that's my dog Atos sniffing this yellow-orange thing and he's 12 kg. In width, this mushroom measures somewhere between 35-40 centimeters.
Well, this is the view from the other side of the tree, you can see the crack in the trunk where the lightning struck a couple of years ago and there are two mushrooms growing here as well.
I took a few minutes and do a google search to find some more information. This mushroom can be found in Europe and North America. It seems to me that it belongs to the 'bracket fungus' group, that is, mushrooms that grow on trees, and that it's most similar to Laetiporus sulphureus.
I've seen that it has several names, such as crab-of-the-woods, sulfur polypore, sulfur shelf, chicken-of-the-woods and that it's also edible when young, but not raw, it needs to be cooked.
Although I was tempted to put it in the pot, haha, just kidding, I only pick and eat mushrooms I know, so porcini, chanterelle or field mushrooms, and it's probably too old because it's so big.
It has been raining here for a couple of days now, autumn is getting closer and closer and I hope that the mushrooms will start growing and I'll be back with some photos.
If not otherwise, then with a recipe :)
