RE: Bota Bota Manga Review

It's always interesting to see what the children of famous end up doing. I'm a big fan of Baki and it's cool to see the creator's daughter carrying on their family's manga tradition, especially doing it from under disguise to earn herself genuine appeal. While Baki is a series that handles violence, it's an interesting turn to tackle the subject of romance and sex from the perspective of a female character who possesses the usually male manga-trope of suffering nosebleeds due to "sexy stuff."

I can definitely see that Tim Burton-esque style you mentioned. Minimal styles are interesting. There is a tendency to over-focus on super-detailed art but I think that different styles can evoke different intellectual and emotional responses from readers -- and that side-by-side with art, story helps make a series or one-shot truly stellar.

I haven't heard of Paru Itagaki but I've seen ads for Beastars on Netflix so I'll be sure to check it out and then look for the one-shot in this post. Congratulations to Paru Itagaki for creating something of enough critical acclaim to get its very own anime on Netflix, just like her father. He must be proud.

Great post!

I never heard of the name, I'm not even particular about the mangaka until I look up some familiar titles on what else they have been known for. I think most would just overlook the name and prefer to enjoy the art title they produce. I think the reason why she became anon or didn't acknowledge she was the daughter of a famous mangaka was to earn a name for herself, really admirable and relatable for me.
