Splinterlands Strategies: Splinterlands is in a Short-Term Lull

Do you feel it? Chaos Legion has come, we have split our packs, done the combines and are playing with the new cards.

So what’s next?

The Splinterlands Team are gone this week, there is no Town Hall or what they used to call AMA and it’s all gone a little flat.

If you don’t feel it then well done to you as I am trying to keep looking forward and use an optimistic mindset.

Players keep probing the team about land but they are being very tight-lipped about things.

image.png

...'PLOT holding steady at $400, but for how long?'...

Once more details are out of the bag don’t expect PLOT to be $400 any more. It’s a fine balance, you wait for bargains or you miss the boat.

Sooner or later PLOT will shoot up and then it will be out of range.

Almost half of the Chaos Legion packs have already sold but given the level of anticipation I have to question the Splinterlands Team on the volume of product released.

image.png

...'over 7,000,000 packs sold, I wish they would sell quicker'...

Was it too much and did they really expect it to ALL sell on Day 1?

It was a tough call for them to judge. If it was gone instantly then there would be cries from some that they had missed out, too much and it feels inflated, bloated and less valuable.

I feel like they overdid it and 10 million may have been a better number but hindsight makes that easy to say.

image.png

...'expect to be cracking Venari Heatsmith's for a while longer, we are only 20-25% the way through this batch of reward cards'...

On the current reward cards I feel like they went too far and we will be stuck with these same NFT’s as rewards for the foreseeable future.

However this is not a criticism of the Splinterlands Team, I mean what would you have done?

So for now the masses can buy Chaos Legion packs and my opinion about this set is rather different than Untamed.

I remember Untamed being released sometime in 2019 and I was distinctly underwhelmed. The expansion felt weak compared to Beta which had recently gone out of print and I bought only 100 packs or so.

Hindsight tells me Untamed was better than I anticipated, I incorrectly ignored it for the most part and continued to battle mostly with Beta cards.

Even when those powerful summoners were Airdropped, I looked up for a few moments to grab some Yodin Zaku’s and Mimosa Nightshades ignoring the rest.

Bad mistake!

UntamedDrop.png

...'800 packs would have gained me a few Scarred Llama Mages', as it stands I have zero'...

If you think the current requirement of 350 packs per guaranteed Airdop is unfair, it’s been worse in the past and may well increase.

This leads me to Chaos Legion. In my opinion it is a strong set and cards on the ‘used’ marketplace are extremely cheap right now.

I know this as I have shifted a throng of cards into another account, propped it up with a smidge of older ones and it sits in the upper Gold league holding it’s own against stronger decks.

Unlike in mid 2019 when I was selling all my DEC winnings I now invest ALL of it back into more cards.

How can you resist such bargains? Common Gold cards are cheap as chips and I have several commons levelled to 8 (Gold League).

MiniTanks.png

The current set of ‘mini-tanks’ are as relevant as they have always been in low-mana games. You stick them at the front and hope they hold the fort while the monsters behind wreak havoc on your opponent.

Or that is the theory…

Then there are these little monsters all costing ONE mana and are designed to get in the way and buy you time.

1mana.png

Did you think them useless? Like Mylor Crowling the best of the bunch is Mycelic Morphoid due to the thorns at Level 3.

Place him on your back line, add some armour with Queen Mycelia and he just might last two or three turns inflicting 4 or more damage to the unsuspecting sneak card.

Queen of thorns.png

It’s a great use of ONE mana, I can tell you.

As for the others, they can gain you time, sit there as Opportunity bait and give your real damage dealers time to counter and remove your opponents mid-line threats.

As this is my ‘Strategies’ series I have to add something such as the above but for the most part this article is more of about the psychological battle, and my mindset which is trying to ignore the declining value of DEC and especially the cards.

image.png

...'all at just above $1 each, some are better bargains than others'...

Many of us start to despair in lull situations and the mind needs to be trained to ignore it. We had it good for several months prior to Chaos Legion and one can forget what it was like prior to August 2021 when there was a significant player uptake.

You need to remember Splinterlands is an old, old game. There are many upcoming games sprouting out of the woodwork but can they survive a crypto winter?

This one did and came out of the other end intact, so have some trust in the developers. If cards appear cheap then buy, because it won’t last.

Great review. I wish I had gone in a bit more on the untamed cards too. It seemed like everyone realized their true potential at the same time and then poof they were gone. With this recent upswing in prices I might try to move some stuff around to buy some more land. I will have to wait and see what happens.

This is my state of mind now, I think we were all hyped about the release and now the newness has gone it's all a bit flat. I love this expansion and have bought heavily into it, and will continue to do so while there are so many bargains around.

DICE is another one I missed. There are some great cards in that expansion. If I could turn back the clock. Land.. I have been picking up when there's a lull, which is rare.

I got right in at the tail end of land. Started pumping some of my gains from AW into there and then poof they were all gone. I didn't even realize what was happening so I got lucky and bought a decent number of packs.

Great insight, cracking land is going to be quite nerve-wracking. Do you get lucky or not?

My guess is I will not get very lucky. I honestly don't even know what I am going to want to be looking for...

Is it 350 packs for a guaranteed airdrop? That's good to know I will get at least one!

It was for the last drop, and maybe the next.. but when those summoners start dropping they may up the ante. We don't want too many knocking about or the value will drop.

That's true. Damn, I had hoped not to buy anymore but maybe I should

I would buy the summoners when the masses offload. They always do, but expect them to be pricey.

Yeah, I have sussed now that it might be more cost effective to buy from the market in cases!

Yep. I feel it. And I'm having buyers remorse for buying packs in the presale and using my SPS and vouchers. I worked out that made the cost about $28 per pack! 😱

They are going to have to go up massively to make that back and into profit. And I imagine it will take longer than previous editions given the high number of them. Unless we get a huge influx of players but by then the next set may be out.

Time will tell.

It is possible that Splinterlands may be introduced to the masses, it is quite approachable but then the newbies would be battling honed bots in the Bronze league.

They are not like the bots of old, these ones are battle-hardened and tough to beat which leads to player frustration. The bots don't go away until you reach Gold.. I worked up an account recently and it's not much fun.

Yes, if we would have known we could have picked up Dr Blights from the 'used' marketplace. The hype drove us to madness.

The hype drove us to madness.

Yeah. There was all that fomo Aggy was spreading about the private investors and everyone worrying all the packs would sell out on the first day of General sale. I usually ignore it but I didn't this time. Kicking myself now.

We are all looking forward to land. They are probably being tight lipped about the new land platform. Look at some of the upcoming block chain games. Developers are really stepping it up.

There are so many others I don't know where to look. I wouldn't mind jumping in on one other but I know from past experience many of them will fall on their arses. It's guesswork.

Absolutely there is many new games. Some will win and others fail. I have time that I never had before to explore. Will have 2-3 games for variety. Sometimes you need a break from the robots here. Gets old fast loosing all the time. I believe they are working on issues. The old players with high cards and newbies that rent them have advantage over the people in battle that actually spend money to collect cards. Not right they run those robots all day. You can see their rewards go down to mere nothing and it keeps playing. I am here for the land developement though. Have a plot and a couple totems.

The Splinterlands team have always delivered and that's why I trust them. Look at the SPS airdrop, a phenomenal idea that made many rich. If you have seen these elsewhere, then please tell me.

As for land.., that will be a game-changer. You will do well buying some before they go nuts... and they will.

When you play that game above of course it's just the same old cards with 4 or 5 varieties of stats.

The pretty graphics is probably the log on page.

I did not look, there are way too many games turning up and each one is a gamble. Other than that, I have an adversity to fees. Let's just say we have been spoiled on HIVE.

There are some good cards in Chaos, but I've not got any of the airdrops. I didn't buy enough packs to get them automatically. I know some people will buy many hundreds, but I'm just not piling in. Not my style :) Can't win 'em all

I didn't buy enough packs to get them automatically.

I did this time, and have a lot more packs to crack but am holding off until all the airdrops happen. I want some of those juicy summoners to be in my packs and have plenty of CL cards to use for now.

I'm really late to the SL hype train and I'm first securing a living wage with crypto and hive before investing in this game. But better late than never in this case.

As you said the gold commons are really cheap right now, seems like a good investment and even if they don't get much more value, they still give a nice bit of power. I should try grabbing some

You may not be late, but an earlier adopter. Who is to say what stage Splinterlands has gotten too, none of us know. If more masses come in then these cards are going to be snapped up sharpish.

Good guide GM! :)

I think about writing more about magic. Do you think some read would read it? Maybe some videos about collection talk? Or to nerdy and we have splinterlands :P

I would read MTG articles, there are very few on HIVE and I don't tend to bother as I'm selling and doing little else. They saturated the market and nothing bar the old reserved list cards has any value now.

The dark is very hot now. Some cards like "up only".

Also, some cheaper revised rares start to become expensive :)

I love your "Strategies" series as fits into my current gameplay. My fav is the Crypt Beetle as front tank, as needs 2+ melee to dent so stalls any 1 melee the opponent has at front. That Hill Giant too is awesome, with 6 health for only 3 mana. Keep up with your reviews as I find them very interesting. Many thanks - Ian.

Good to hear! I have had a fondness for those mini-tanks for a long time. We get so many limited mana matches and people tend to focus on the big bad monsters so much. One big monster with no artillery rarely wins in a 14 mana game.

Did you get the baakjira monsters, so much power for only 6 mana, I managed to kill one using stun.

Yes, I have a L3 one and several spares. They were airdropped before the 350 pack requirement so I got a nice stash of them. I haven't used it in battle yet but can see the potential.

Even though I have been playing Splinterlands (SteemMonsters) since its incepetion, I am no expert by any means. Having said that; information like this is very useful. Splinterlands is unique that is for sure. I do not know of any other #play2earn game that has so many tools to enhance the game!

Barron's Toolbox for Splinterlands Game           SplinterCards for Splinterlands Game )           Peakmonsters for Splinterlands Game

The Splinterlands core team of management and development have done a great job. Though I am critical of the game's direction at times, I need to learn how to be a lot more diplomatic as you are!

I have been openly critical in the past, but I do trust these guys to send it in the correct direction. This is mostly about my feelings right now, we had it good for a while and it's kind of flattened out.

This was an interesting read and looking at those reward cards, they will all be gone sooner or later. They will go out of print and I will be crying for all those pelacor deceivers I gave away in my streams. Heading to the market now going for a shopping spree :)

That is a pretty good summary!
I really like your perspective on the matter. I would also suggest to buy the cards as long as they are cheap, since I agree, that it won't last this way. And if you believe in this game, then it is a great investment! No financial advise though!

Cheers,
