Q. "What is is the one thing that you are most grateful for in this life?"

Today being 17th of October is the one of the most grateful days in my life, it marks the end of a long journey that started in 2016. What is today, you may ask ? Well Today is the graduation ceremony of my kid brother.

I have three brothers and we all went to the same secondary school called Marist Brothers Juniorate, Uturu. My experience in the school is very different from that of my brothers based on the time we were in school. I finished school in 2016/2017 set. In my own schooling years bullying was rampant and the senior students would oppress the junior students. This is common in Nigerian boarding school. In 2016, I started my Jss1(Grade 7), the kind of society I was introduced was very different from what I expected. Being in the school again after so many years brought back many suppressed memories. I met some of my old teachers, some of them found it hard to recognise me. I went around the school admiring a place I once called home.

I came to a particular spot that gave me goosebumps, in my Junior class a particular evening they had rang the bell for general prayers and some of the senior prefects had come to pursue us the juniors to the general hall for prayers, so one of the seniors pursued me. I ran down a flit of stairs and jump at the second to last step, I then hit my head on the wall above and fell to the floor, I started to bleed. That incident gave me a significant scar on my forehead, I went to that same exact point and almost shead a tear, all this time had passed by so quickly .

Me & My Brothers

We all have individual stories to tell about the same place and today signifes the end of my family line that is in secondary school. When I was an SS 3 student (Grade 12) my brother entered the school. I felt sad because I didn't want to leave and allow my brother to face the same fate as me. But with time the school authorities has done well to reduce the rate of bullying in the school.

My brother faced many challenges as a student, he suffered severe panick attacks in the time leading to his final exams due to pressure and anxiety. It made us rethink his admission into the school. But after all this time, it was finally over. I am full of joy and exicted. This signifes the beginning of a new phase in his life and I couldn't miss it. I had to be by his side today of all days, we made a video vlog where all of us individual congratulated him and storing that moment forever. We are grateful to God. I pray that God ushers him into his new phase in life and I pray he grows to become a wonderful young man. Congratulations Odira, your big brother is so happy for you.
