It was worth the wait | Remodeling La Floresta Park in Medellín-Colombia PART 1

(Edited)

Greetings friends of the Architecture+Design Community, I am glad to greet you and I hope you are doing well. I've been a little busy, the truth is that I've been overwhelmed with a lot of work but how relaxing it is to sit quietly and be able to enter Hive to share with you a little piece of Medellin, the city where I am in Colombia, known as the City of Eternal Spring so it is logical that we see a lot of green in it and more now that it is raining much more than normal lately.

I tell you, that in Medellin they have been renovating some of the parks that are natural environments within the modern city and a few days ago I was able to take some pictures of a park that was closed for a long time for remodeling in La Floresta, in commune 12, one of the most traditional sectors of Medellin. That park is called Parque La Floresta, as you can see in the notice that they are finishing.

After the photos I took, I realized that I should show you this work in two parts, because the truth is that the park has received excellent treatment in the redesign of its spaces as a green area in the city.

It was common to hear comments from people complaining about the delay in reopening the park because it took so long to remodel it. It was closed for a year or almost a year and we were already waiting for the long time it was kept closed in mystery without knowing how much they were going to do to it. We were waiting to see what the changes were about because for the time elapsed, it had to be something very good.

Well, it did look nice, it was worth the wait. Before there were many fast food vendors, especially hamburgers and hot dogs at night, but now there are no sales, I think that maybe they prohibited it so that the park would not look ugly or maybe they only allow it on weekends when there are more people. I don't know, but the truth is that I see it more beautiful, clearer, I think more orderly because before it was full of vendors and there were also many people who used the park but to be hidden with their vices because it was a very dark park and now it looks more illuminated, I think it had too many trees without maintenance, then that lent itself to people with vices who were always sitting there consuming unhealthy substances. Now it is clearer and no longer lends itself to such things. It is good to see that it was worth the wait, although there are still details to attend to and that is why you can see workers of the Mayor's Office of Medellín at work.

What the Mayor's Office did was to enable the sectors that were ready while they continue to attend to details in the remodeling of the park.

This decision allowed the neighbors to enjoy the park that was so badly needed in La Floresta. I was amazed because I now see the park with its natural environment but with modernization in some of the elements and furniture without losing the ecological essence of Medellín.

New children's area

I see that they added a playground, a children's area that did not have one before. Look how the playgrounds with modern designs look very striking in the middle of the vegetation, with recovered garden areas.

That little park is a structure that was not there and it was very nice.

New signage

There are also new signs and this indicates an order in the park, you can see the ones that indicate the children's play areas.

2.png

In the park they put a free WiFi zone, which in all parks there is but as this park was kind of old there was not, at least I think so because now if I see a signage. That sign that says Connect, where there is a WiFi icon, is for people to know that this is a free WiFi zone. This was great for me to take a look at Hive.

Updated benches

The model of the new benches is definitely a great change aesthetically, because the previous ones were very old, made of cement and no longer pleasant for the ornamentation of the park.

Bancas actualizadas

Diapositiva45.PNG

Vegetation

I see that the park is greener, tidier and naturally illuminated, although it is noticeable that they pruned bushes that were very crowded.

Diapositiva18.PNG

However, they added more vegetation because they replanted the gardens, they rearranged the whole natural environment and the truth is that it looks more alive, before it looked very dark. Although there are many trees, in my opinion they pruned and cut some of them because the park does not look as dense as before.

The orchid is the national flower of Colombia as in my country Venezuela and is part of the vegetation found in the park La Floresta. This is something that fills me with feeling, because I did not know it, another detail that unites Colombia and Venezuela as brother countries.

Restoration of old trees

I am sure that as part of the Ecocity policy of the Governor's Office of Medellin, restoration work is done on the oldest trees in the park to improve their structure with special treatments that allow them to stay standing longer. I had seen this before in my country, Venezuela, in the Samán de Güere, which is a very old tree symbol of the independence era. But in Medellín I have the opportunity to see for the second time this type of work on trees.

New lighting poles

The poles in the park used to be made of concrete but now they have been replaced by metal ones, with a more modern design and I am sure they are environmentally friendly. They can be seen well placed throughout the area, for me that is a relief. Although I have not been through the park at night I imagine that it must be very well lit with the lamps that are arranged in large numbers.

Diapositiva21.PNG

Diapositiva23.PNG

In addition, it can be seen that the work is continuous to attend to all the details for the optimal functioning of the services in the park. That hole is because they were making some arrangements for the illumination.

Diapositiva91.PNG

I actually saw other metal poles that made me curious.

Diapositiva72.PNG

Even in the trees you can see some reflectors, although I did not check it I think that maybe they can work with solar light panel.

Imagen32.png

I always pass through the park during the day but perhaps I should take an evening stroll to appreciate the nighttime ambiance. This is a very family friendly park and it is good to see that the La Floresta sector of Medellin, Colombia, has this park open and renovated again. This is really good news.

In a few days, I will bring you a second publication to show you a little more about the improvements in this park where you can enjoy nature.

The truth is that the park is very well organized, I don't know how it was before but I can appreciate that they effectively replanted certain plants, the trees are very lively, the new lighting system, the floor is totally renovated and in good condition, I loved the idea of the new bench to sit on. A nice publication to see

Greetings @ginethchira2301. Yes, there is a big difference between what the park used to be when compared to what it is now, I couldn't find my photos from the last time I was there before its closure and I didn't want to use photos downloaded from the internet, but maybe for the second post I will have to do it, so you can better appreciate the before and after of the park. Thanks and blessings

I like it a lot when they remodel squares and public places, although I am a little upset that they don't put enough places to sit down, here in Venezuela for example, they fix up a square and make it beautiful, very colorful and bright, but few people go to hang out, they only use them for the photo :c

Greetings @oscargonzalez123 you are right it is unfortunate when public parks are not taken advantage of and beautiful. Here in Colombia it is different, the parks are well used spaces for recreation, it is common that they are crowded. I wish it could be like that in my country Venezuela, parks recovered and full of people, including me. Blessings my friend, happy weekend.

They did a lot of work that is why it took so long to finish it. Love the sight of trees and plants around the park.
