Dear friends, during the past summer I told you that I was not able to afford many free days on the weekends. This saddened me more than for myself, for my partner Giovanna (whom I convinced to sign up on Hive @giovi86) and above all for my Shyla, who loves going on trips so much and unfortunately this year she has done very few.

But a few days I still managed to dedicate it to my puppy, like a splendid day spent in the Altopiano di Asiago, along the "Tour of the Malghe" of Gallio (Veneto). A route of about 10 km which expands on a plateau at 1600 meters above sea level, among pastures and cows left free in pastures as far as the eye can see.

We thought that the malghe were the ones open to the public, in order to be able to buy some typical mountain products, which I love, such as Asiago Stravecchio cheese. But unfortunately they were private huts, intended for the refreshment of the cows and their herdsmen.

However, this was not a hindrance, we had everything ready just in case, sandwiches and drinks for all three of us. Furthermore, alpine pastures or no alpine pastures, when we finished the first section of the path that climbed gently for a couple of kilometres, when we reached the summit, this breathtaking panorama opened up, with an expanse of meadows on soft hilly shapes, where hundreds of cows grazed undisturbed.

Towards the beginning of this expanse, there was a gate open to pedestrian traffic, with a sign saying to be careful of cattle, especially if you had a dog, because in that place the animals were left to graze almost in the wild and were very sensitive towards dogs, which they could mistake for their natural predator, the wolf, very present in the Altopiano di Asiago.

There was a moment in which a young bull tried to approach us menacingly, ordering a charge, but I managed to dissuade him and make him back away. I have always lived in contact with cows as a child and I have learned to relate to them. Despite this small fact, there was no other alarm and the walk continued serenely, happy to have left the smog-laden industrial plain for a day and to be able to breathe some healthy, clean air.

It was my first time following this trail, although it is very well known in my area and now I wish I had done it sooner, but better late than never. The panorama that can be enjoyed from up there and the expanses as far as the eye can see at over 1600 meters really deserve to be experienced and if you have the opportunity I recommend it, because you breathe an air of freedom.

Cari amici, durante la passata estate vi ho raccontato che non sono riuscito a permettermi molte giornate libere nei weekend. Questo mi è dispiaciuto più che per me stesso, per la mia compagna Giovanna (che ho convinto ad iscriversi su Hive @giovi86) e soprattutto per la mia Shyla, che adora tantissimo fare gite e purtroppo quest'anno ne ha fate ben poche.

Ma qualche ben giorno sono riuscito ugualmente a dedicarlo alla mia cucciola, come una splendida giornata passata nell'Altopiano di Asiago, percorrendo il “Giro delle Malghe” di Gallio (Veneto). Un percorso di circa 10 Km che che si espande su un altopiano a 1600 metri di quota, tra malghe e mucche lasciate libere in pascoli a perdita d'occhi.

Pensavamo che le malghe fossero di quelle aperte al pubblico, per poter così acquistare qualche prodotto tipico della montagna, che adoro, come il formaggio Asiago Stravecchio. Ma purtroppo si trattava di malghe private, destinate al ristoro delle mucche e dei loro mandriani.

Questo non fu però un intralcio, avevamo tutto pronto all'evenienza, panini e bibite per tutti e tre. Inoltre malghe o non malghe quando abbiamo finito il primo tratto di sentiero che saliva dolcemente per un paio di chilometri, arrivati in vetta, si aprì questo panorama mozzafiato, con una distesa di prati su di morbide forme collinari, dove pascolavano indisturbate centinaia di mucche.

Verso l'inizio di questa distesa, vi era un cancello aperto al transito pedonale, con un cartello che diceva di stare attenti ai bovini, sopratutto se si aveva un cane, perchè in quel luogo gli animali venivano lasciati pascolare quasi allo stato brado ed erano molto suscettibili nei confronti dei cani, che potevano scambiare per il loro predatore naturale, il lupo, ben presente nell'Altopiano di Asiago.

C'è stato un momento in cui un giovane toro cercò di avvicinarci minaccioso, intimando una carica, ma sono riuscito a dissuaderlo e farlo indietreggiare, ho sempre vissuto da piccolo a contatto con le mucche e ho imparato a relazionarmi con loro. Nonostante questo piccolo fatto, non vi è stato nessun altro allarme e la passeggiata è continuata serenamente, felici di aver lasciato per un giorno la pianura industriale carica di smog e poter respirare un po' di aria sana e pulita.

Era la prima volta che seguivo questo sentiero, sebbene sia molto conosciuto dalle mie parti e ora avrei voluto averlo fatto prima, ma meglio tardi che mai. Il panorama che si gode da lassù e le distese a perdita d'occhio a oltre 1600 metri meritano proprio di essere vissute e se avrete modo ve la consiglio, perchè si respira aria di libertà.
