According to legend, Padua was founded by Antenor. Antenor is a character linked to Greek mythology, the son of King Dardanus, then a Trojan prince.

The catchment areas of the Brenta and Bacchiglione rivers have contributed to the birth and development of the city of Padua. Moreover, urbanisation has taken place around them and this has contributed to the creation of certain views of the city that are very evocative.

St. Anthony's Basilica is commonly called the Basilica del Santo.
St. Anthony lived in Padua between 1229 and May 1231. He died on 13 June 1231 and was buried in a district of Padua called Arcella. Miraculous phenomena began to occur at his tomb. With time, news of these miracles spread and pilgrims began to arrive from different parts of Italy. Pope Gregory IX named him a saint and given the incessant pilgrimage, it was decided to build the Saint's Basilica. Work began in 1238.

Prato della Valle
One of the symbols of Padua is its large elliptical square called Prato della Valle. According to some, it is one of the largest squares in Europe.

The square in Prato della Valle is surrounded by a canal on which 78 statues are placed. Since ancient times, the space of the square has had economic and recreational functions, and it appears to have been a large theatre in Roman times.

Prato della Valle was created in 1775. At that time, Andrea Memmo, a Venetian patrician, with the help of Domenico Cerato, professor of architecture in Vicenza and Padua, enhanced the square by reclaiming the area. An underground canal was created to drain the water from the central ring. The central green island is called Isola Memmia, in honour of its creator.

Il posto è magnifico, è l'aggettivo appropriato secondo me

!PGM
