I must confess that I never thought I would ever catch the Splinterlands bug.

Heck, I knew about it when it first came out as Steem Monsters and my first thought was:

Er, card games? Magic Gathering type thing? Nah, that's not for me...

This feeling has persisted ever since until about a month or two ago when the whole NFT world started to explode. Seeing Bored Apes etc all over Twitter selling for tens of eth, I knew that I had missed that boat but could 100% see the potential for NFTs more generally.

Which led me on to start (re)thinking Splinterlands here on Hive.

After all, the game is built on NFTs as each card can be bought and held as an asset. There are limited numbers minted and they become even more limited as they get burned when players level them up etc. This increases the value of the cards. You can sell them on the secondary market or rent them out - at the push of a button. And all, super importantly, for zero gas fees (looking at you Ethereum...!).

So I was hooked. But that was just the start...

As I experimented with the game and started to learn about the cards as 'NFT investments' I found myself really starting to enjoy the game. Not that I am any good at it. Far from it. I just started to find each match mesmerisingly addictive! There are so many different combinations of players and abilities and formations - I am still languishing in the Bronze League at Level One but I don't care, I love it!

It has led to the point that my main focus on Hive right now is centred mainly on news about Splinterlands.

It's a whole new world, I just wish I hadn't missed out on the past couple of years of Splinterlands fun...!
