Baseball - SF Giants Run-Line - 13th June

Hello all,

I'm switching this to a daily post from today, and will catch up with where we stand earnings wise since the last update in a future post, when i've had a chance to gather all the data together.

Strategy Summary

So to recap on what I'm doing with this betting strategy:

  • Using the run-line market to back the SF Giants to win a game.
  • This will generally mean a -1.5 run-line bet meaning the Giants will need to win by at least 2 runs to give a successful bet.
  • Occassionally, and usually dependent on a) the opposition, and/or b) odds offered by my bookie I'll flip it to a +1.5 run-line bet, meaning the Giants can either lose by 1 run, or win the game to give a winning bet.
  • Initially, at least, amount staked will be a modest £0.10 GBP - so this is not a strategy to rake in huge amounts, but hopefully will bring us a profit by the end of the season.
Yesterday's Summary - 12th June

The third and final game of a home stand against the division topping LA Dodgers resulted in a 2-0 win, and series sweep for the Giants, the first sweep since 2016. This game also marked the 10th anniversary of pitcher Matt Cain throwing a perfect game, (one of only 23 ever such games in the entire history of baseball - about 150 years). It then seemed that fate would repeat itself as Carlos Rodón almost managed the feat himself, falling just 2 outs short in the 9th inning. Ah well, a no-hitter will just have to do.

As for our bet, well, that didn't work out so well. The "best"(5-4) odds were on the Dodgers at -1.5 run-line, and given that they are #1 in the division at the moment, had suffered 2 loses to the Giants, and hadn't been swept for 6 years I figured GO FOR IT!! But alas the bet was lost. A minor inconvenience, however, as I'm more than happy with a Giants win and a sweep to boot.

In a tight game, the winning runs were scored in the first innings, with both Austin Slater and Mike Yastrzemski smashing homers to centre field, and Rodón's near perfection on the mound (moving to 5-4, and 3.18 ERA), highlights were few and far between. This result leaves them in 3rd place in the NL West (3.5 GB) with a 33-26 record for the season. A 6-4 record from the last 10 games, and 3 game winning streak.

Onwards and Upwards (hopefully)!

Today's Bet - 13th June

Next up, with another 3 game series, are the KC Royals curently languishing at the bottom of the AL Central, so a good chance to continue the excellent form against the Dodgers. Meeting for the first time since a 9-5 win for the Giants back in March during Spring Training, Anthony DeSclafani the winning pitcher that day. Alex Wood, 3-5, 4.25 ERA, takes the mound.

And it's back to the taking the Giants -1.5 RL at 6-5 odds.

That's it for today! Have a great one, and thanks for reading.
