Glorious Goodwood - Day 2

Hello fellow Hiver's,

Today is day 2 of the prestigious 5 day racing festival held at Goodwood race track, known as Glorious Goodwood.

And we'll kick off with a review of the some of the big highlights of day 1...

The big race of the day was at 3.35pm, The Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup. At a distance of two miles, this Group 1 race is for the stayers, and two of the best Stradivarius and Trueshan were in the mix, along with the young pretender Kyprios, unbeaten this year. Trueshan was initially doubtful to run because he prefers softer ground, and has been pulled from several recent outings due to the ground being unfavourable, and is unbeaten in his last 5. Stradivarius is a superstar in the racing world, having won many prestigious races over his career, usually ridden to success by the equally successful Frankie Dettori, but on this occassion Andrea Atzeni took the reins. In the race itself, those three protaganists settled in behind the leading three until atrounf the 3f pole, with Kyprios taking the lead from there, and soon under pressure from both Hollie Doyle on Trueshan on the outer, and Stradivarius on the inner, who led briefly. Kyprios pushed on again inside the final furlong, and retook the lead and holding on to win by a neck from Stradivarius. Trueshan finished third in the end.

Of the two races, in which I had suggested bets to place in yesterday's initial post about the Festival. The first at 1.50 pm, The Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap produced a winner in the form of Forest Falcon at odds of 14-1. You may remember I said that at these odds and with Frankie Dettori on board it was an excellent each-way opportunity. Well Frankie did the business and got us off to a great start to the meeting. Our other selection for that race, West End Charmer was a disappointing 14th. The second of our races, the 5.20pm Coral Beaten by a Length Free Bet Fillies' Handicap again gave us a winning return with Rainbow Colours coming home in second, with our other horse Outside World again disappointing coming home in 8th place.

So out of four bets, we had two adding cash to the kitty, and started the day with a modest profit of £0.69, effectively making our bets today free.

And so onto those bets for today 27th July, 2022

Again we are on the first race of the day with 2 selections, and as was the case yesterday the odds are just begging to be each-way opportunities, which given the success of the trainer at this meeting over the years does seem rather generous of my bookie, particularly with a winner and a second place in the bag already.

Today's feature race is again at 3.35pm,The Qatar Sussex Stakes, another Group 1 battle over 1M on this occassion, with the unbeaten (8 wins from 8 races), and seemingly unbeatable, Baaeed, a huge odds on shot (1-6 is the best currently on offer listed at oddschecker) to win this race. However, I'm slipping in a cheeky extra each way bet, taking last years winner, Alcohol Free, to hopefully cause an upset at 11-1, following on from a recent victory at Newmarket 18 days ago.

That's it for today. Have a great day, and if you're betting then good luck, and thanks for reading as always.
