New Baby - Home Coming Celebration (Indo Western Ritual) // @EcoTrain QFTW 5.7

Today we celebrated the homecoming of my nephew, SUVIR.

Suvir is the 1st born of my elder sister. He was born on 15th March 2021 and come home today. We celebrated his homecoming with a lot of decorations and performed some customs for the well-being of the child and the parents.

I am sharing this experience with you in reply to @EcoTrain QFTW 5.7 // Share A Ritual That You Perform or Know About. He started his post by introducing a Ritual done on Mahashivratri, a popular Hindu festival celebrated mostly in India. Therefore, I am sharing what we North Indians generally do when a New Born Baby comes home for the first time.

To start with, we decorated the entire house with Flowers, Balloons and Name letters. This was to give a warm and comfortable welcome to the new parents who have been through a lot in the hospital, especially the mother who undergoes the operation. So the intent was to make her feel special and show her bright things to cheer up and forget the pain.

We offered the floral decoration to the house temple. We got bouquets of flowers for the new parents which were first offered to God for blessings.

We decorated the entrance area with flower petals. We created a flower bed on which the parents walked down with the baby. Like a red carpet!

We did some floral decoration on Tulsi plant which is considered to be really auspicious.

This is Swastik sign, Symbol of prosperity and happiness in the house.

This is the entrance of the house, we hung flowers which to give a fresh look and fragrance for the new parents and baby.

We used some balloons and alphabets'of the baby's name to decorate the house.

We also created a floral mat to welcome Suvir

We prepared a plate for Aarti, where we light a diya and use some red color with rice to put on the parent's forehead as a sign of blessing from the almighty.

As soon as they arrived, they saw the decor and were really amazed and happy. They walked down the floral path we created for them.

At the entrance, we did some pooja using the plate we decorated.

Then we allowed them to settle. I prepared for them a welcome cake (cupcakes to be precise). Since it was a religious thing, I baked eggless cupcakes with the name of the baby.

We cut the cake and enjoyed the muffins.

And finally, we took a family picture <3

It was a great celebration. We enjoyed it a lot and the new parents really appreciated our efforts, I truly believe that we should respect our traditions and culture and perform all those which bring us good health, prosperity & peace. But at the same time, any such tradition or culture should not be a burden for us. We should follow traditions in a way loved by all.
