ENGLISH

The cold winter becomes powerful, manifesting itself through the fierce snowstorm that fills the entire forest and its surroundings with intense white color, almost completely hiding the sunlight that barely manages to reflect like mirrors in the icy mountains of the mountain range, clouding the view of the vehicle where a couple of scientific researchers trying to make their way, in order to reach the observation station where the alarms were activated. This remote site is located within the largest glaciers in this part of Europe, so they have no idea what could have triggered the emergency devices to start emitting warning signals. However, although everything seems to be an equipment failure, given the importance and monetary value of the experiments contained therein, they must attend immediately without being able to present excuses and make sure that everything is working properly.

A lonely path slanted between frozen pines marks the course of the snowmobile that advances at full speed overcoming the steep hill of ascent to the scientific station, they have already traveled more than 33 kilometers, when suddenly an animal runs out of the forest, making them swerve to avoid hitting it head-on, but inevitably hit a stone that made the vehicle overturn, throwing the two crew members into the air, unconscious, and lying on the snow, seriously injured. Ernest was the first to wake up, after a few hours totally bewildered, with great pain throughout the body due to the blows he suffered, but generally speaking, he was at least better than his companion Likato, whose leg was fractured and crushed by the weight of the apparatus that remained above him, without being able to regain consciousness.

The darkness manifested all its intensity on this moonless night, where the solitude of the forest massif kept them isolated, without any kind of communication, neither by radio nor on their telephones. Ernest, using a lever with the snow skis they were carrying, managed to remove the snowmobile from his companion, when the crushing syndrome diminished, Likato regained consciousness, but the pain he felt was so great that every so often he fainted again. A distant light could be seen flickering between the mountains, indicating to Ernest that they were already quite close to the experimental station, or at least much closer than they thought, it was only one kilometer the distance he had to travel to reach the place and ask for help, not to mention that if he did not, his colleague would probably freeze to death in the middle of nowhere, his wounds would kill him before dawn. So he plucked up the courage to undertake the journey alone, leaving his companion lying on a log and sheltered as best he could with the equipment he had rescued from the vehicle, but a deep doubt was corrosively inserted in his mind.

Ernest tried to check the surroundings of the accident, to see if he could find any trace of the strange white-furred thing that crossed the path like a ghost, but he did not succeed, surely the snowstorm completely erased all traces of the place, so saying goodbye to his injured friend, he asked him to resist at least a couple of hours while help arrived, he asked him to resist at least a couple of hours while help arrived, which he responded by nodding his head and showing a smile full of hope, watching as the light of the lantern faded into the mountainside as his friend moved away towards the scientific base. In a short time, Likato felt even more of the onslaught of blood loss, perceiving an intense cold that took over his whole being until it made him flicker, at the same time that life escaped from his body. However, some supplies from the backpacks and the first aid kit managed to keep him stable, soothing his pain as well.

The pressing loneliness of the vegetation, made hissing sounds in his mind, introducing fear and uncertainty into his thoughts before the possibility that any wild animal could attack him while defenseless, despite knowing as a scientist that in these mountains there are no wolves, nor bears; only snow, forest, and mountains, but then the memories came to his brain as an intermittent flash that gave him few lights about the event that overturned the snowmobile, he was sure that something very tall crossed his path, he could even assure that it walked upright like a human being, but it was covered with white fur, something that completely puzzled him before the impossibility of determining what it was, but that made him resurface with force the nervousness of looking like a potential victim before the aggression of a predator.

Silence took over the whole place, while Likato tuned his hearing and looked in all directions with shortness of breath that causes him uncomfortable dizziness, suddenly from far away an echo was heard coming from the mountain, very similar to a growl, but with really terrifying tones that seemed to approach in the direction of him, without even being able to stand up to try to run, he could only stay there still, praying not to be found.

Minutes of anguish have passed since the last time the frightening sound was heard, making Likato regain his calm, but when he felt more confident, suddenly he hears how the branch of a tree thick enough to creak, breaks behind his back betraying the presence of something sinister, feeling how the horror runs through his blood in the form of ice daggers that pierce him internally, he stands perfectly still, while a dreadful smell like a wet dog takes over the atmosphere, making way for the appearance of the sound of heavy footsteps tearing through the snow and the rumbling of heavy breathing condensing like fog, showing the warmth and silhouette of a living animal on two legs that was standing practically next to him, holding Ernest's bleeding head in its hand. Fortunately, the monster seemed to have no sense of smell, Likato could only imagine his death in those seconds of anguish while he covered his mouth with his hand to avoid screaming, just waiting to be discovered crying and trembling with fear, but the predator of thick corpulence like a gorilla, just continued on its way ignoring him completely and leaving the footprints of large feet settled on the white floor of the glacier.
