RE: CreativeCoin: The Tribe that Gave Up

Feel free to make an offer or send people that may be interested in taking over an offer. A ton of time is needed for these to be successful. More time than one person can do on their own while working full time. A dedicated team is needed, and that's where the difficulties come in.

It cost well over $1000 to initially set-up and get rolling. At first everyone is on board and wanting to help, but without the ability to pay wages, interest from the team usually wanes. The move to HIVE is where things fell apart. Some team members just left, some were trying to launch their own tribes, and some just were never around. The plan to moderate the tag is still a good idea in my mind, but quickly turns into a full-time job. We couldn't seem to get everyone on the same page on what was or was not allowed, and many nights were spent just removing votes or smoothing over how it was presented.

And without a suite of tools or access to a coder, it's near impossible to implement any ideas that you may have.

Once the terms of moving the tribe came out, I wasn't going to move CC, but changed my mind since the community seemed to like it. As I stated above, that's when the wheels came off on the back-end.

So as of now the website is hosted for a monthly charge, and the yearly fee to keep the domain is the only other monetary cost.

So I would happily turn the reigns over to someone that would attempt to solve the issues, but no one has asked to do so or made any offers. Until then, it will stay up and running in its present form which sucks, but is the reality of the time and resources I have available.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Shane, I feel many of us were hoping that CCC would come alive one day. I am in no position to take it over, but at least we can now see the position you are in.

I also appreciate the reply @swelker101; thanks for taking the time!

I guess I "still care" because this was one of my top three picks for communities that would signficantly impact the future of Hive.

I saw here, the potential for something to do a parallel thing for artists/creatives/musicians to what LeoFinance has done for the financial/crypto niche.

Yes, it takes a LOT of work; I've built communities before (not on the blockchain) and it's tough when it's essentially built entirely on sweat equity. And you do need a dedicated team... for something like this probably 8-12 people. Last project I worked on ended with an active user base of about 18,000 and we had as many as 28 volunteer "staff" members...

Tangentially related, there really is a potential business here for an ambitious coder/developer to build custom skins/front ends for tribe and communities on the Hive Blockchain.

Whereas I can lend cheerleading power and time, I can't take on a project like this... although there's another community (without a front end or token) I know well who could potentially "merge" with CCC and create something. But again, the technical and coding know-how would be the missing link... what we really need around here is someone independent with the programming/usability/design skills of @steemchiller from back on Steem.

Regardless, I'll put some feelers out, because I'd hate to see this community just slowly fade away...

Hi. I run a writing and learning website called Silly Linguistics. We make language learning material and stuff about languages. I used to be a programmer. I actually have a masters degree in computer science. I find the internet fascinating and love how people can make their own stuff and make money doing it.

I have a bunch of people who are super passionate about writing and we publish a magazine every month where we show cool stuff about words and languages.

I don't know what is involved in running a HIVE tribe but I am super passionate about online content and want to know what is involved because where there is a will there is a way.

I have spent the last few years building up my online presence. I have about 500 000 followers on Facebook where we talk about languages and linguistics.

I started buying CCC a while ago and I regularly buy CCC to help the price of the CCC community. If there is anything I can do to help out please let me know. I have a lot of knowledge of programming and online tech. Also I work with a lot of very talented creators and have contacts with a lot of programmers and tech enthusiasts. I am sure we can find a way to make CCC work.

As I recall, the original INTENT was for the Creative Coin Community to be a hub for artists, musicians and other creatives on Steemit Hive.

Typically content covered

  • Art
  • Music
  • Photography
  • Creative Writing
  • Poetry
  • Digital Art

And I think there might have been a few others.

Content was actively curated and moderated for relevance and yes, there were a few skirmishes with people who felt they should be allowed to post "whatever," and there were questions of the "freedom" of a blockchain community. Which always leads me back to the simple question of WHY someone would join a knitting club to talk about car repair?

Because "Creativity" covers a wide range, the "heading" invites sub-communities, for example along the lines of the list, above.

So far, the only Hive community (that I know of) that has somewhat done this successfully is Natural Medicine, which also has a Spanish language subgroup, a "Homesteading" subgroup, an affiliation with the "Abundance" tribe and so on. They have an 8-member team, an active Hive community page AND their own front end; four distinct weekly curation posts/areas and regular community initiated contests/challenges. It's an interesting group in that they have 2900 subscribers, but not a super-large flow of posts because it's very niche.

Anyway, just thinking out loud, for the moment...
