Restarting Our Age Old Dim Sum Tradition 🥟 #DashOutSunday
It's been a while since we've last had dim sum and if I recall correctly it was in January. This feels like ages ago to us, because we used to go once a month with a close knit group of friends, which turned into only going around national holidays, which is a lot of times considering Suriname has plenty of those.
But since the pandemic, with the lockdowns and restaurants restricted to take-outs, we parked our age old tradition, because having dim sum at home or at a random venue wouldn't be the same. Another minor side effect was that less members were beginning to respond in our once so lively group chat.
Which is understandable because some have migrated abroad and/or gotten married or had a baby and with the restrictions we've lost touch with a few because we've had to postpone the planned occasions surrounding food. This was a huge deal, because a part of our group name has "FOOD" in it 😅.
And then, while texting a friend about another event last week, dim sum was randomly mentioned and before we knew it, we set a date, time and place. I then proceeded to invite the others in the group chat and brought up that it's been a while.
More than I had anticipated responded and rsvp-ed and because I was the one who had suggested dim sum, they left me in charge of reserving a table. Before this I was exempt from planning get togethers in this group, because most of my friends are assertive and did all the planning and reserving.
It was finally Sunday and we were the first in the restaurant, being surprised by some additional faces we hadn't expected. It was also good seeing some faces, I haven't seen in years or only through my screen.
We caught up with the latest updates in our lives, talked about work, careers and aspirations. Cryptocurrency, blockchain and even Hive came up. In Suriname we're trying to be cautious about where we talk decentralized finance, because a huge part of the population isn't ready for cashless payments, let alone cryptocurrency.
The same can't be said of those present though and when they heard about the Hive blockchain and its possibilities, their interest got piqued and wanted to know more. Who knows, maybe because of this dim sum date, more will soon on board this driving force.
That was a great part of our Sunday and I didn't even mention the food 😅, which was full of flavor for the most part. One of us even tried a new dim sum snack, who was at first hesitant. I then proposed to try half of it, so that if it's not pleasant the person wouldn't be stuck finishing it.
Looking back, I realize I forgot to take photos of a few dishes, because I was either stuffed or too focused on eating. I should be more assertive in the future, but today was a good start, as I left taking dim sum pictures to the others in the past. All in all, I enjoyed seeing those faces in real life again, while restarting an age old tradition of ours.
Here's the aftermath of having our bellies filled 😂.
Looks so good. I'm happy you have a chance to restart your dimsum tradition.Enjoy until the next one.
Yeah, most of us were happy to reconnect. One was hesitant at first because he wasn't impressed by the food a few weeks earlier, but he showed up I think for the company 😊.

today.Wow! That looks like a lovely feast. I can imagine how good it felt to have dim sum again and to meet with others. You were the organizer and photographer….how lovely. 😃
I hope your group will be able to meet again more often.
I hope so too. Maybe not every month, but definitely more regular now that the restrictions have been loosened.

Great that restrictions have been loosened. These days socializing feels good and strange at the same time. Lol
!LOL I agree... I used to be a hugger and still am, but feel uneasy because I don't know who wants to or not. It used to be such a normal way to greet friends, but everyone has their own boundaries nowadays.

Lol!! I’m a hugger too. It’s hard to know what boundaries people have. Greeting is kind of awkward. Recently 2 people greeted me. Our gestures were a bit unsure and then we ended up going fist to fist. I’m so not a “fist-to-fist”person. I rather a high five but… it’s understandable.😂🤣
Hahahaa I've also experienced that. Nowadays I'll just wait what the other person does and then you encounter those who also will wait and see and then it stays awkward 🤣🤣🤣.
😂 Haha! Everybody’s waiting.🤣🤣

today.Dim sum, I never came across that phrase until I saw your posts. Good to get out and chow down with friends. This plandemic has had so many stuck in the house not wanting to go out. I feel like I’ve been out too much 😂
!LOL Well I say that you don't work as a means of punishment, but to afford activities and items that you enjoy.
And me feeling awkward because I don't know who is open to hugs or not nowadays 😅🤣, while it used to be so natural.

Right!! Don’t know who to hug anymore. I guess Japan has been on to this all along 😂 no hugging and mask wearing has been part of the culture.
That's what I've been thinking also and it was also mentioned in comedic videos, that Asians were unto something, because of not having shaking of hands part of their culture. Bowing as a greeting has been here for centuries... 😅
