Chat.Peakd Released: Open Source Chatting Brought To Hive

We got an interesting announcement a little over 12 hours ago.

The open source team tied to Peakd has released a chat application. This looks like it could eventually be similar to Discord. Right now we have the basics of private and group messaging.

It can be found at chat.peakd.com.

chatpeakd.png

When we go to open the app, we get the option of being a guest or using Keychain.

chatpeakd.png

We can either update the preference or just enter.

chatpeakd.png

Next we get our screen with the communities that we joined via the Peakd application along with the other options.

chatpeakd.png

In addition to the community, we can send a direct message or set up a group chat with multiple people.

As you can see, the direct message can go up to 4 people where, I presume, the group can handle much more.

Another Hive Based Tool

What is so special about this?

To start, it gives Hive communities the opportunity to leave a Web 2.0 platform. For years we took our engagement offline and onto a platform that benefits some centralized company. This is no better than the Ethereum people claiming they would use Reddit for communication and voting. Why turn to Web 2.0 when we are trying to construct Web 3.0?

One of the reasons was a lack of choice. Now, as we are seeing, this is not the case.

This application was funded by the Decentralized Hive Fund. From what I understand, it is open source, thus any project team can incorporate it.

As for the messages, they are not posted on-chain. Thus we are not spamming the chain nor are personal messages at risk of showing up. Perhaps there will be more details coming out about how things work from the technical perspective.

This was built by people on Hive, for those who are part of the ecosystem. At we can see, the options are basic but it does have community chat. This will give project teams the preference of leaving Discord at least for their group notifications.

An Expanding Ecosystem

In addition to the applications that write to the chain, we are starting to see communication tools showing up. This is all part of building out an ecosystem and bringing the "Everything Protocol" to light.

The idea of supporting the Web 2.0 projects knowing that we are simply the product should be unappealing to all of us.

We know what YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Discord are all about. They seek to mine people's data for the purpose of monetizing it. At this point, we can believe that this application is not mining the data contained in people's messages.

The open source team that is tied Peakd is behind this project. They are the ones who are responsible for bringing forth the open source Internal Exchange (Hivehub Swap).

Making Communities On Hive Stronger

For years we talked about communities. Many projects are looking to build infrastructure to cater to this. One of the tenets of Web 3.0 is that it will be community driven instead of by application.

chatpeakd.png

Notice how it is pulling the information (Links) from the community set it tied to Peakd. This is another example of how it is tied to Hive and not dependent upon the data housed in a non-Hive based company like Discord.

We still need to know a bit more about this yet, if it is truly open source, we can imagine the interest in integrating it into other front ends.

It is another tool that is allowing Hive to become a standalone ecosystem that can cater to the needs of projects and individuals who find their way here.

Let us see how quickly people adjust.

Yeah. Good to see more added to the ecosystem.

A nice communication tool. Hopefully more features are added to it.

Wow! Hive is becoming standalone already and to think that a chat would be worked on here, it's definitely a great news at the moment.

Things are being developed and I am loving it.

It's a nice initiative, however I don't think it will replace the community of Hive users using Discord. I think most of them got used to using discord, at least in my case, (I think that's their goal, that people stop using discord to communicate with the community and start using this website), I love the achievement , I don't think this website is a bad achievement, nor do I take it badly. But we all know how difficult it is to get a user out of their comfort zone. The innovative thing to note is that you can put together groups of people, and it's Web3 which is revolutionary, besides that, more of the same. It may sound bad, but Web3 is Web3 and you have to aim for that, in the future, of course in Web2 We have little security and that bothers us all Anyway, let's give it a try. Good post! Your follower of Argentina, good pots as always!

Tested it last night and I was so impressed. Hive is turning out to be a complete solution for web3 and our transition from web2 to web3 is looking much smoother now. Great to see DHF is being used to develop apps like this.

Web3 is the future!

This is great addition and development to the ecosystem a private chatting capability has been much needed on Hive and now it is great that we have it.

It feels great to be witnessing these developments.

It seems pretty cool so far. I like that it is easy to see who users are across the platform. On Discord people sometimes use different names and it gets confusing. Hopefully we start to see some of the communities that aren't cooked into the system show up.

A chat application on HIVE it'a a good thing. I just tried it from your link but didn't understand how it works. I will try again over the weekend when I have more time.

I find this super interesting. Hive is gradually overtaking the web.2 socials and I see it becoming a global social platform. I will check out this right now

Hells Yeah!! This is what I've been waiting for. My Question, though, is, will it be a another way we can earn via comments or is this just intended to be a basic chat app? It will also need a hivesigner login option for easier mobile access. I use the Keychain app on mobile when I have to, but I prefer using the Brave browser when I can.

I dont think it is tied to the blockchain reward system so no I dont sense that will happen.

Of course, an app could tie it to their token if they rework it somehow.

Just wanted to say, I'm playing with this and and it already feels very familiar. I'm very eager to see it in a year or two, after it has all the bells and whistles. Everyone make sure this gets as much funding as it needs. 😁

That's pretty cool and I am amazed at the number of applications and games that have rushed into the Hive space this year. And we are still gonna see new projects launched, all strengthening this ecosystem and giving it more use cases.

Absolutely amazing what is taking place on Hive. I hate web 2.0. I only use discord when I have to.

That goes for all web 2.0

Thanks for this information 👍

Wow! What an interesting update about Hive. I love the idea that it has opened a new feature wherein we can direct message to authors even without using discord. It is great whenever we need more attention of an important matter for surely people hang out in Hive during free time.

It is a great addition.

We will really see the impact when other apps incorporate it.

This can be plugged into what they have built.

Interesting that communities are starting to pick it up! Can't wait to see how this competes with Discord. If this turns out well, connecting to and in different communities would become easier as it's all under Peakd chat.

I am eager to test out this PeakD Chat. I use Discord only because the projects and communities i am a part of choose to use it. If they didn't, i wouldn't use it. I am a big opponent of Discord and their Big brother policies, this could be a serious gamechanger!

I was in there poking around today. I could see everything but it would not let me send a response. Screenshot_20230316_151651_Hive Keychainbeta.jpg

Thank you for the informative post. This is a good development. 👍
