Governments Feel Entitled To Everything

It is no longer conspiracy theory or anything like that. Presently, it is getting impossible to deny that governments have an agenda that is not aligned with its population. Control and power is what it is all about.

Governments and the people who are involved feel entitled. The word "service" is a joke when it comes to this. They have no interest in serving anyone but themselves. It creates a situation which is getting very confrontational.

Technology is a double-edged sword. It provides both sides with enhanced powers. We are seeing a race to see who can leverage it for the most gain.

On the surface, it appears that the governments are winning. However, there is a case that could be made that most are just waking up to the war that was taking place. The events of the last year and a half are starting to open a lot of eyes.

This means that the tenets promoted by many are starting to be understood. Here we see where a number of allies are joining the action.

Changing The Entire Venue

It is easy to make the case that government is not suited for what is taking place. Leaving aside the system for a moment, most of the top players involved simply are not cut out to comprehend how things are evolving. This is something that is to the advantage of everyone.

We have a case with the messenger application Signal. For those who are not familiar with this particular situation, Signal is a privacy messenger. It contains end-to-end encryption along with saving no user data. All conversations are not seen and cannot be accessed by the company. People such as Edward Snowden recommend it for those who are involved in communications in areas where it is very dangerous.

As you can imagine, this is very upsetting to governments. They do not like the idea of not being able to see what everyone is doing. In this era, they feel that they are entitled to see and be able to monitor all.

Here is where the quandary arises. The government wants information that the company simply does not have. It does not exist.

According to a post on their blog:

Signal still knows nothing about you, but inexplicably the government continues to ask.

Interesting how the government does not appear to want to take no for an answer. Here we see the mentality of these entities. No matter what they are told, they feel entitled to the information. Anything that happens the government should have access to.

As usual, we couldn’t provide any of that. It’s impossible to turn over data that we never had access to in the first place. Signal doesn’t have access to your messages; your chat list; your groups; your contacts; your stickers; your profile name or avatar; or even the GIFs you search for. As a result, our response to the subpoena will look familiar. It’s the same set of “Account and Subscriber Information” that we can provide: Unix timestamps for when each account was created and the date that each account last connected to the Signal service.

Source

We can expect situations like these to keep escalating. The powers-that-are will not take this willingly.

And that is the point. We must keep pushing the envelop, both with development and our use of these applications to ensure they see the light of day. It is imperative that they remain accessible to the masses.

Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DA0s)

It is vital that we change the game. Few would argue that it sensible to take on the power of these entities head-on. If we operation on their field, they will crush us. Hence, it is a matter of going around them.

Signal is one example of how that is done. No matter how much they push and prod, it cannot hand over something it does not have. The application was established with the intention of counter-acting the oversight and prying of governments. Unlike the data harvesters who amass as much data as possible, this group went the opposite direction.

The key will be to get half a dozen applications like this.

Another key factor is to have the business structure is such a way which eliminates the points of vulnerability. Here is where Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) enter the picture. Instead of having an address to subpoena, a DAO operates completely without centralization.

Therefore, anything the government sets down is not worth the paper it is written on. A DAO is not under their jurisdiction since it does not exist in physical form. There is no tie to the physical world, the realm that our present governments and associated entities were designed to rule over.

If Signal was a DAO, there would no place to issue a subpoena. In that instance, the government could only scratch its head. This is a prime example of how development with the proper initial structure can alleviate a host of headaches.

Governments simply are showing they feel entitled to everything. It is apparent that they will use the "we have to stop criminals" as a means of legalizing their tyranny. Hopefully, the world is waking up to this.

As projects like Signal pop up, the path is for more individual to "opt out" of the existing system. It is vital that people stop using the centralized applications, in this case Messenger, Kik, and WhatsApp. The concept holds true for all software that is developed. We need, collectively, to be looking for ways to get around the power structure of governments.

Starving The Beast

One of the advantages to cryptocurrency is that it now gives people the ability to starve the beast. Again, we need to see the opting out process taking place.

We are in the process of erecting a new financial system. This is going to provide people with the ability to interact, monetarily, outside the government established system. Of course, we know this is not sitting too well with them as they find out the potential that exists.

Fortunately, they are ill-equipped to deal with this arena so their concern is moot.

Nevertheless, we have to keep diligent that what we are doing is truly decentralized. They have no answer for that. It is the hope of many that thousands of DAOs pop up over the next couple years. That would be a basis to announce to all there is a new paradigm that we are operating under.

If Bitcoin is truly the first DAO, then it is providing a wonderful example of how powerful this is. While they fret and complain about it, Bitcoin cannot be stopped by governments. At this point, it is too far advanced for them to shut down. The same, sadly, cannot be said for most other crypto projects out there.

Either way, that is why we keep working and building. As more is erected, the points of vulnerability get harder to hit. Ultimately, it becomes a numbers game and that always favors the general public. It is a matter of making their guns and jails less effective.

Hence the crux of this battle. Government feels entitled to everything and we need to push back with the idea that they deserve nothing.

It is a philosophical confrontation that will have an impact for decades to come. Therefore, we have to make sure it moves in the proper direction.

It looks alike the Governments are the same world wide. But no doubt the African government are still the worst.

In my country, they publicly banned cryptocurrency. But one of the government’s official’s mobile Home Screen was leaked at a time and it showed that he uses a crypto. That’s wicked

The governments are somehow like to supress/opress their citizens. Nowadays I live in Hungary, and they intentionally keep the most of us under the local minimum wage.

My current situation:
I live with multiple disabilities, and I receive a pension-like income, which is approximately only $250 USD per month. Nowadays I also work in a four hours per day part time job, but my total income is still only approximately $470 USD, while the local minimum wage is approximately $550 USD per month.

Fortunately/luckily I am receiving help from kind and generous people. Mostly from Hive users.

Shame on the governments.

Greetings from Hungary.

Yes. I am also sure about this. It already helped a lot, and I am sure that I will get out of the financial discrimination, in which I currently live in. I am very glad/grateful and very happy for all the support I receive from this community and from the cryptocurrency technology itself.

But no doubt the African government are still the worst.

North Korea isnt to accommodating to its citizens.

China is heading in that direction.

There are lots that are in the race for the worst.

Lovely writeup...I look forward to when an instant messaging app built on the Hive Blockchain would become a reality

Not sure there is much need for a messenger application on blockchain per se. The idea is to store no data, not distributed data.

True, but how cool would it be to get rewarded for chating with your sweetheart on an instant messaging app 😃

This is the same story as always. Those currently in power use that power to try to stop technology.
Tech wins.
Every Time.
They can drag their feet all they want, but this thing only moves in one direction.
They call themselves progressive but progress has only ever come from technology, not government.
So just dig in. Smoke 'em if you got 'em. When the noise stops come out and pick up the pieces.

What is interesting is that, with the pace of technology and the ability to code from one's bedroom, that the regulations and laws the put down simply provide a road map around what they are setting forth.

There's also some interesting subtext here, and that's how none of the government agencies actually work together in any meaningful organized way. Obviously the CIA could hack any of those conversations directly with the backdoors they've built on every operating system, but the lower level agencies aren't allowed the same access as the top dogs.

This also really shows how they aren't targeting suspicious individuals, they are casting a wide net over everyone and following up red flags, which always leads to innocent people being wrongfully targeted. This is especially true when they use AI and other algorithms to flag the data.

The application might be safe but they can get the data if they backdoor the phones anyways. Hell, Facebook might be monitoring the usage for all we know.

So you are right, there are a lot of holes in the system.

The vast majority of people are still dependent on Google and Apple to download their mobile apps, even Signal. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a shift to a decentralized blockchain-based mobile app distribution platform this decade.

The DAO is definitely the organizational structure of the future - it removes friction and makes business more seamless.

The hold that the OS providers have on the system is extreme. It is a major point of weakness.

As stated below, we might see Apple and Google pressured to drop it if too many people start to use it.

That's been my philosophy for a long time, starve the banks! They feed off our energy, and that means we actually have the power! We just have to organize that energy to sustain ourselves, and cut the beast off entirely!

It was kind of expected for the government to target signal and I am glad they aren't storing a bunch of information about the users. Do you think the government will give up or do you think they will try to force signal to start tracking information?

Do you think the government will give up or do you think they will try to force signal to start tracking information?

If it gets too big, I think they might pressure Apple and Google to stop carrying it on their stores.

That is one of the major points of weakness. We truly need a place to store Apple and Android app files that can easily be downloaded outside the permissioned system we have.

I am not sure that is technically possible though. But the overall mindset appears that the government is not going to take it lightly.

Therefore, perhaps download the application so it is on your before in case it does get whacked from the app stores.

Yea but both systems have their own stores and I have a feeling they will just kick off the decentralized app store to remove competition. Even if it ends up being fought over in the courts.

It will be great having more likes of Signal pop up in complete decentralized form.
I have no doubts we are going to be seeing similar kinds of Signal messengers.

We've got to keep starving the beast with every single opportunity we have and it begins with using WhatsApp less.

I am not sure it has to be centralized since the application is serving its purpose. Those who started it had the intention of non data harvesting.

Not sure that will be the case for everyone. However, a DAO does get around those pesky subpoenas.

I think African government institutions and their parastatals are quite known for wanting to control and see what everyone is doing. So if they cannot, then they begin to find ways to actually do. They already control the banks, the network providers, monitors people lives through the banks to see who is trading crypto. It's safe to say that the more the tech behind crypto gets away from them, the more they seek control and power.

It's crazy that after 20 years it's become "normal" for people to have everything they do tracked and logged. We look at other countries like China and say wow that's a horrible way to live everything tracked and used against you. Ever mistake etc. It's time to relook at ourselves and realize the USA isn't all that different anymore. Privacy needs to be restore to it's people and governments clearly wont give up power and instead continue to take it. However technology gives us the edge now.

In Nigeria, government don't want people to use crypto currency but them called politicians are investing in it, especially one senator from the middle bet Area. Government ban Crypto currency in Nigeria and still introduce E-naira, that's to tell you that our government are confuse people.

I like this privacy options, I just want to know what would you use it for?

When you say communicate private conversations away from prying eyes, are we sending classified information? Then it becomes a case of why are you sending said information?

Just curious because from memory the very reason onion network was created was to mask a actual spy networks, so this who Signal use, are we not sure that it is only there to alsy be used to cover other things too?

And thinking back, what illegal things are being sent? So then I would add for myself I wouldn't want to be involved in anything that is illegal because after all we have all argued that crypto is not nefarious in nature and the argument that criminals are the only ones that use it for criminal transactions would further add to the illegitimacy argument of crypto. I know this is about communications but its being discussed here in Hive, a crypto space.

I don't really know about foreign countries but my country government (Nigeria) hate what they can't control, trading of crypto becomes so popular last year in Nigeria and the government reliaze how powerless, the money use to trade a day and people keep investing in it so it was banned because they are not generating anything from it . Thank God to p2p that give people another way of still buying crypto in Nigeria, so they create E-naira to know everybody trading crypto in Nigeria and as a payment method to even fill their pockets claiming it will generate million of dollars by fours years time and this is not going well presently.

The privacy and opportunities cryptocurrencies brings is amazing, I hope it continues like this because anything can happen and I don't want anything that takes privacy away from cryptocurrencies.

In regard to starving the beast, it occurs to me that crypto has the effect of taking money out of banks and corporations, which are some of the largest income producers and political contributors. By shifting the control of capital to the citizens, we are effectively shifting power.

@taskmaster4450 / / This is wonderful that they are creating this type of application and in my country Venezuela would be of great help, since the government has all the powers in its hands. Any type of denunciation or protests is no longer valid, they lock you up, and you disappear because they have access to all kinds of information, a tyranny in broad strokes.
