How Committed Are You To Making Hive The Best That It Can Be?

avatar
(Edited)

How far are you willing to push yourself?

This is a question high performance people are asked all the time. The answer tends to be they are willing to go further than most will.

Take those who excel at running marathons. Their bodies hurt just like everyone else. However, they conditioned themselves to run past it. From what I read, they attain what is called a "runner's high". It is a point where the pain leaves their body and they continue running as if they were just starting the race, at least from that perspective.

We see the same thing with weight lifters. Those who excel in this area seem to continually do more reps when other quit.

Finally, in the area of business, similar traits emerge. If we look at Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Steve Jobs, all can be considered to be intelligent. However, all spent time sleeping in their offices. Regardless of their intelligence, they also outworked almost all others.

Where does this come from? And what does this have to do with Hive?

In this article, we will answer this.

Fully Committed

Do you know what it means to be fully committed to something? This is a question that most of us will answer in the affirmative. Sadly, for most of us, it is a reflexive answer. The reality is that a large part of society has no idea what it means. This is something that is reserved for only a select few.

Full commitment means success no matter what. It takes on the connotation of being willing to keep going until the desired result is met. This means setting incredible targets and going after them. In the mind, nothing is going to stand in the way.

Compare this to the average person. This individual excels at excuses. We see it on a daily basis. It is much easier to complain about things as opposed to getting something accomplished.

Let us take something that was traditional in its commitment: marriage.

There was a time when a couple would do whatever was necessary to make things work. Certainly there were exceptions in the case of alcoholism or violence. However, for the vast majority, the commitment to the other person was guaranteed to bring out the motives mentioned here.

Today, we can see how this is lacking. In the United States, the divorce rate is near 60% and climbing. Most are willing to enter and exit marriages like they do a bathroom stall.

We can make the same case for businesses, careers, dedication to children, and a host of other areas. In fact, we only have to look at the waistlines on most people to realize what is happening.

As we can see, this is becoming an epidemic. The lack of ability to fully commit to something means that most achieve, at best, mediocrity. Is this what life is all about?

For most, I guess it is.

The Passion To Make It Payoff

Are people committed to Facebook? At this point I would say it is more addition rather than commitment. People spend hours on social media, time spend that does not have much (if any) positive financial impact upon their lives.

Hive is different.

It does offer a social media aspect to it. However, it also provides the opportunity to build for one's financial future. We often used the analogy that we are each our own business on here. This is something that rings true with me.

Since we have a social media platform that is monetized, we can see how an economy can form. Each of us is a part of this, contributing to the success (or failure) going forward. If we are successful, the rewards should be bountiful. Everyone who is contributing should benefit greatly.

Of course, to achieve that end requires a lot of effort. The question is how much are you giving? Are you fully committed to making Hive the best that it can be?

There are a core group of people on here who can answer yes. We see them showing up daily, immersing themselves in different projects. They are committed and will not stop no matter what occurs. While certain paths might close, as projects fail, they simply pick up the pieces and start something else.

This is true for developers, content creators, and project team members. They just keep going.

Imagine what Hive would be like if 2,500 people on here had this mindset. We are not talking about hundreds of thousands of people. If a fraction of the userbase had the mindset of not stopping until total success was attained, how much more impact would we see.

They say if you want to have something of extreme value, affect the lives of 1 billion people. Viewed in this manner, it is easy to see why Facebook is worth as much as it is. Whether it is positive or negative, we cannot denying that Zuckerberg affected billions.

The same is true for Apple, Microsoft, and Google.

With this target in mind, we can see how much upside there is. What would Hive look like if it were affecting 1 billion people? How much would the assets tied to Hive be worth? What would your life, and those of your friends and family, be like if that were a reality?

We often talk about building. Cryptocurrency is offering a life-changing opportunity for people. How many are taking advantage? It is sad that most approach this with the same way they do most other things in life: with a mediocre mindset.

Hive and many of the projects on it have enormous potential. To realize this, the efforts of thousands of people are required. Who is standing in line to do the grunt work to achieve that end?

These are the ones who will financially benefit down the road. Often, the path to great heights involved a great deal of trudging.

Now is time to question your commitment. Where does it stand? Is there more that can be done?

If we are going to achieve these aspirational ends, a lot more people have to step up. Once, however, that commitment is there, it is rather easy to put in the work.

How far are you willing to push yourself?

There is no need to push anything. Just use the platform naturally. For example see YouTube. People are using it naturally. The interactions are genuine. Not forced. And the comments are often funnier than the videos.

The nature of the interactions is a big problem on Hive. People push/force themselves and even others to interact with each other. You can obviously notice/see that many of the comments are not natural, not genuine. There is no real interest behind them. Except the intention to grab the attention of the publisher.

A successful platform does not require its users to push themselves, because everything comes naturally/genuinely.

Interesting point, I have to agree partially. This comes with the incentivization. If e.g. comments couldn´t be upvoted (technically), there would be far less comments, I assume.
But with pushing I think the author meant spend more time & efforts in creating something useful, not comment scamming. E.g. to create Dapps, start initiatives, communities, etc.

The comment upvotes on YouTube are not generating (direct) income for the authors of the comments, yet even the smallest YouTubers have comments. This is because the incentivization is the content itself (and/or the content creator). People are actually interested in the content and/or in the author of the content.

Comment upvotes works both ways and due to the monetisation of content on Hive, people are also concern on their reputation here.

You can just spam comments on Youtube, writing crap and nothing happens. Try that here and you won't last very long. So content is very important, but your reputation is even more so.

You can just spam comments on Youtube, writing crap and nothing happens.

Except that the channel owners may mute/ban you. Some channels even have pre-moderation, which means that they check your comment, before (if) they let it out. Spam is not welcomed nowhere.

When I say push, I mean in terms of building a business. Hive is much more than just a social media, interact like this is youtube.

If that is all you think it is, then you miss the entire point of Web 3.0.

I think when you see #hive newcomers, they come for the easy money. By the time they see this is not the case they start acting up for a vote.
As you say using #youtube looks natural cause it is either you watch videos or you make videos.
Sometimes I go to youtube for the comments cause they are outrageous funny.

Nevertheless #hive could change the way folks earn, that way the natural can come flowing. Many folks do not understand Hive as well. DO not forget #hive is running toward decentralization. It is crypto at its center core.
Push or not #hive is a place where hard work will pay off.

I think I get it and I use it the best I can and the way I know I find joy doing it.

Are you fully committed to making Hive the best that it can be?

Answer: Yes, full stop.

The key is the passion derived from doing what you love and embracing the ownership mindset that true believers in Hive posses. Take writing posts for example. Coming up with an idea for a good article is the first hurdle, but once surmounted, I often find that the writing begins to flow like water, fresh and clear.

I'm usually pooped after finishing a post as I'm so particular that it has to be "just so" before hitting 'Publish.' Yet, the more you do it, the easier and better it gets.

Just today, I started one post (getting my outline down) published another post, while editing photos for a third post, and it all flowed naturally. But it all goes back to that ownership mindset I have with Hive and LeoFinance that you don't get with Facebook or Twitter.

Hive is my home, and I'm going to pitch in and help build a strong foundation for a sturdy structure that will last for years to come.

Does anyone else reread their posts for a third time after having published them before possibly going for the comment replies? I find myself doing this often and even with grammarly often find mistakes.

(Edited)

I do, and still find mistakes. In the above comment, I missed the "u" in sturdy (which was corrected now). I've gone back to posts written a month ago and caught little things that somehow escaped me so that the post looks as professional as it can for visitors who find it here, or on Google and other search engines.

Spelling and grammar errors are like software bugs to me and need to be squashed when found.

Treat your posts (and comments) like a house you're showing to a prospective buyer. We all want Hive and LeoFinance to look their best! :)

I have done that, probably not as much as I should.

For SEO rankings, I keep going back and updating some of my older articles here and there. At those times, I come across a few missteps in the grammar or spelling.

Nowadays, I almost always finds errors I missed after I post, despite a personal proofread and sometimes even after a proofread by a colleague, and I end up making several edits before I don't find any more errors.

Most of my grammar mistakes happen when I go back and edit some sentence I wrote to simplify it or improve it. The original sentence was correct, the new sentence in my head is correct, but when I edit the original sentence I don't just remove the old sentence and write the new one from scratch, and I don't end up making all the correct changes to transform the old sentence into the new sentence in my head.

I also find that I make more spelling errors than I used to since I began studying Mandarin. I think it rewired my brain to be more phonetic, and sometimes I'll write an entirely wrong word that sounds something like the word I intended to write. It's very disconcerting because in the past I could count on my writing to be near perfect in terms of spelling at least on the first draft.

Nothing like choosing an easy one to learn. LOL

I chose it primarily because I play table tennis and so I have a lot of friends who are Chinese. It's also helpful when playing against Chinese who think you don't understand their spoken comments to each other in doubles :-) It's also very interesting to study a language that isn't a Romance language, to see how a truly distinct language evolved and to see the differences and similarities that still exist.

Spoken Mandarin is actually very reasonable to learn. The grammar is logical and there's not a huge number of words to learn like English. People often make a big deal about the tones, but I think the concern there is overblown. I'm sure I mess up tones all the time, but I'm also sure a native speaker won't be confused by my mistakes (they haven't been so far, at least, as long as I speak a sentence instead of just one word because they can figure it out from context).

The pain comes when you're trying to learn the essentially non-phonetic written language (yes, there are "radicals", but don't get me started on how inferrior that is to a truly phonetic written language). I've studied the written language some, but I don't have any real goal to learn it well, except where it might help me with the spoken language.

I feel like it's something that happens with the english language a lot tho may not be limited to it. Where you decide to reword something and the whole sentence needs to be rewritten. I think swedish and german are more forgiving there but not sure if that's what you meant.

That's really interesting that you're learning mandarin. I feel like I'm way past being able to learn new languages but maybe I'm just not trying hard enough, coding languages would've been a good decision for me and I regret not having stuck with it.

Learning a programming language is much easier than learning a language, so I would say for sure it is not too late to learn programming. Learning a new real language is a lot of work and you need something to keep you motivated. My own study is pretty intermittent.

Most recently I got motivated to study Mandarin some more after watching some Korean shows on Netflix and realizing I was learning a few Korean words, so I decided to see how I would do if I started watching some Chinese shows there as well.

My two biggest weaknesses at present are 1) I have trouble understanding spoken Chinese because my brain translates words too slowly and 2) I sometimes don't know the "normal/common/popular" way to put a set of words together to express a larger concept. Watching the shows is helping with both of those and it's a kind of low-effort way to study, so I can do it when I'm just trying to chill out at the end of a day.

Being committed to something, one has to be intentional about it and for the few months of being in hive, I've come to realize that I am becoming a part of it as the day goes by and I will say yes, I'm committed to making hive grow and I'm willing to play my part in this growth.

This is a wake up call to so many of us and it's also a good encouragement to everyone who reads it. Thank you so much for Sharing this with us Sir.

I personally have nothing against grunt work, if you want to call it that. No matter how big I'd get on hive both as an influencer/author/personality or stakewise/project wise I would never shy away or push myself to make sure I acknowledge all kinds of engagement, followers, etc I do get. It's also something that really grinds my gears when I see smaller authors completely ignore after being well perceived by the network and curation wise. Another thing that irks me is seeing top witnesses barely be around and social on the network, yes I realize keeping the chain secure and properly solving blocks is their main job but it really says something about some that do nothing else except place some autovotes/trails in my opinion.

Of course there are upper limits to pushing yourself as well, you either literally reach the limitations of time or push yourself so much that you get burned out. But to keep it on a healthy level and focused on hive to be an all round "gruntworker" is nothing anyone should be ashamed of or think that the grind should stop once you get in a certain position. for me personally the only time I'm going to chill out a bit more is when I see Hive where it should be in the rankings and om its good way to becoming the next big giant leading the way for a true web3 that most will never be able to compete with because most won't want to give all that power or return potential to the community.

0

0.000

Without a doubt what you state about the block producers is true. We have many who are missing in action. They are not on Hive, nor on Twitter actively promoting things. I agree about the keeping the chain going and safe expect how much time does that take. If there is an attack, or upgrades blow up, that is time consuming. However, during normal time, the servers just keep running with perhaps some maintenance that needs to be done.

Engagement is still key. We all can keep adding a few comments here and there.

To add to the list of things that grind the chops, is when people post articles, get comments, and never respond to a single one. How about engaging with the people who took the time to reply to what was written in your OWN article?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Good downvotes are a key fix there, if the upvotes and rewards aren't encouraging you to give more time and effort back to the community, maybe the downvotes will. :p

No but in all seriousness I have no issue with people adjusting the rewards down on authors like that, surely their rewards are better used and earned elsewhere. You know easy earned Hive easily ends up in sell orders because why would they care when it took close to no effort to earn it. It's not enough that you just happened to find Hive and managed to get some autovoters or (whatever else reason upvoters), you need to put some sweat into that earned hive for it to mean a little more to you.

0

Very true. Easy come, easy go is the mindset.

Fortunately, so far, I havent had to liquidate any of my Hive and was able to spend 5 years growing it. I know not everyone is in the situation and some really do need the money to live. That said, hopefully most have some long term outlook and do stake a fair portion of what comes in.

At the end of the day, my view is simple: to get as many words on chain as possible. Activity is key.

The grass is always greener...

What I went though at the beginning of 2022 to purposely change. Into Mr. Positive.

I hated my job, I hated my life. I was pushing though Hive.

I had a life changing moment.

I was forced to do some training at work. Cardone University training. Love Grant Cardone or hate him it does not matter. When I watched what he had to say about commitment it changed my outlook on life.

Basically, to paraphrase, it is not your job, it is not the people around you, the problem is that you are not committed.

Once you commit yourself 100 percent things will change.

I jumped into the deep end. I determined I was going to be the best version of myself I can be.

I became Mr. Positive. Here on Hive, and in life in general.

I now love my job, love my life, even with what I have going on [my regular readers know my story). And I love Hive more than I ever did.

Mr. Cardone was correct. It was me, I was the problem.

I now have the greenest grass.

I am excelling at work, in my personal life and on Hive.

Commitment. I got this. You can also.

Thanks @taskmaster4450 for this article. It motivated me, obviously, to write this reply.

Full commitment means success no matter what.

NO. Success is just a byproduct of the process. Success at times creates an illusion and might cause distraction.

So what does commitment means for me:-
(i) Identify the right process
(ii) Primacy of the process all the time. Success will come on my way, no matter when and how?
(iii) Willing to wait indefinitely, that indefinite term is more important here, that otherwise means that I have utmost patience all the time. That's important, History has always rewarded those who are willing to wait.

The right process might be the wrong one.

That is the challenge. We rarely get it all right in planning or from the start.

But if we know our outcome that is desired, the paths might vary as we learn more information and adapt based upon the feedback we are getting.

There are two types of endeavor we generally engaged in:-
(1) Repetitive
(2) R &D

Only R&D does not have the right process, in fact, they invent right process and standard operating procedure for the rest of the world.

In contrast, all the repetitive projects have numerous standard operating procedures, so assuming we gonna interested in something of a kind of repetitive one, we have the SOP in place, and we might have a variety of SOP. Because we are always guided and motivated by such SOPs if u r engaged in a project which is repetitive in nature. But yes I agree, the SOP may offer 80-90% of the path, the rest 10-20% will be unique to the specific project.

As a social media Hive may not be new to this world. As a Blockchain Hive may not be new to this world, but a Blockchain-based Social Media Hive is a new to this world and already set the tone to offer something better than what the established ones have. So we have the experience of Facebook as a social media, we have the experience of BTC, ETH as Blockchain, but our operating module is different. So at the macro level, we have certain experiences, but at the micro level, we need to establish our own SOP to deal with those nuances.

I am committed to Hive and I have been cutting down on my sleep to at least get some commenting in. Work has been kicking my ass and all I need to do is be more consistent with all of my activity.

Of course, to achieve that end requires a lot of effort. The question is how much are you giving? Are you fully committed to making Hive the best that it can be?

Talking about what no one else dares to talk during more than six years in the Hive ecosystem, could it be considered as some sort of commitment to making Hive the best that it can be?

Uhm, well, because six years is a long time and I suspect I've done my fair lot of efforts in that regard giving my best all the time! LoL };)

I'm a big proponent of organic growth. If it has value, it will grow. It may be slow growth, but it will grow. Things that grow fast tend to die hard. Remember MySpace? Fast rise, rapid decline.

There is a lot of truth to what you say. Things that explode without much of a foundation tend to implode as quickly.

Now is time to question your commitment. Where does it stand? Is there more that can be done?

There's always more that can be done, commitment can always be increased - unlike investing in stocks or bonds, the blockchain requires effort and creative energy and time and attention, all of which may or may not increase it's value.

My father use to say: You Make your own Luck!

And you make through hard work!

  • I agree. I have a blog, and blog daily, I use my upvotes daily, and I run two projects on HIve, and two communities.
  • When people ask me how I achieved my level of success here I say 60 moons of hard work!
