LeoThreads: Rewarding Content Discovery

Hive is a mecca for innovation. One of the keys to the path forward is what happens outside the "core" Hive. We have communities, many led by creative and resourceful project teams. Quite often, major innovations occur outside the boundaries of the core team.

We saw this with the reward pool split. On Hive, it was 75/25, with the larger percentage going to the authors. One of the tribes (it might have been Leo) started with a 50/50 split. Ultimately, that was adopted with the base layer reward pool.

Once again, we see Leofinance come up with an interesting idea.

LeoThreads is a microblogging type feature, similar to Twitter, that uses the comment level for engagement. This is a radical transformation from the traditional long-form content on Hive. So far, the results are promising, with the numbers steadily increasing.

However, with each new innovation, we see a new twist.

Getting Rewarded For Content Discovery

There is no doubt that content discovery is one of the most difficult things on the Internet. Search engines have spent the last 20 years trying to hone this, albeit not always for the best results. Curation projects also find difficulty in getting this right. The entire premise on Hive was to find and put forth "quality" content. We know the struggles there.

That said, we know word of mouth is important. We see this with films or television shows. If someone we respect suggests a program, we are more likely to watch it as opposed to an algorithm tossing it into our Twitter feed.

Here we see where our personal relationships, the reputation if you will, of the other person enters the picture.

It is the same thing on Hive. When I suggest something, those who follow me will be more apt to give it a read as opposed to a complete stranger. This is not 100% nor is it guaranteed. However, this is how things go viral. When one person shares something with his or her followers, a few do pick up on it and keep it moving.

With LeoThreads, we are now finding the potential for getting rewarded for "making a recommendation".

Here is a thread I sent out earlier today.

There are a couple things that should stand out.

The first is that this article is not mine. It is one that I came across on Leofinance. Hence, there is no content creation on my part required. In this instance, the time, effort, and ability of someone else was utilized by me.

At the same time, we can see the thread was upvoted for .04 LEO. With the 50/50 split, this is .02 LEO for me.

Naturally, nobody is going to get rich at .02 LEO. However, we have to keep in mind, the content is not mine, but sharing it earned me a bit of the reward pool. This was a process that took me all of a few seconds to complete.

It is so easy a child can do it.

The Internet is filled with people sharing stuff they like. Here is an instance where, right on Leofinance, we can get rewarded for content discovery.

In other words, if you find an article you like, post it on Threads to let others know what you found. There might be someone happening by who agrees with you. At a minimum, there might be some reward for the effort.

Adding More Ways To Earn

Hive is a constantly expanding ecosystem. Within that, Leofinance is helping to forge ahead with innovation.

LeoThreads offers a number of ways to get rewarded. Putting up threads is one way. There is also the traditional engagement route.

Here is a thread that someone posted with a comment related to it.

Once again, not a huge amount whereby one's life is changed. Nevertheless, .40 LEO, half of which goes to the author of the comment, is not a bad return for two sentences. All of this starts to add up over time.

Many focus upon the grand slam homerun. That is fine at times. However, there is a lot to be said for going after the smaller shots.

LeoThreads is a great place for quick its. It doesn't take a lot of time, great deal of thinking, nor in depth analysis. Instead, simply putting up content that others might find enjoyable could end up with a few votes.

This is a great way to supplement the other activities that you are doing on Hive.

If you found this article informative, please give an upvote and rehive.

What we're doing on Twitter, we've got to do the same thing here and in return we are getting some cents, Not a bad deal. And I think people will interact more if they see engagement on their threads and this will inspire them to do more activity on threads.

Very good idea and a very interesting piece of advice that you give us: Share content from others through LeoThreads. I'm going to start implementing it. Regards.
