Fiesta Is Coming To Town!

Despite the two-year length of the epidemic, we are starting to celebrate fiestas once more. After a two-year hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, municipal officials announced late in December 2022 that the Singkamas festival would resume in February in the town of San Marcelino in the Filipino province of Zambales.

The colorful Singkamas Festival grand procession in SAN MARCELINO, ZAMBALES, which is known as the Singkamas Producing Capital of Zambales, will cap off the town's week-long town fiesta celebration on February 26.

Last night, February 21, in the Municipal Public Plaza, the Ramon Magsaysay Technological University's Sining Folkloric Group and elementary and secondary school students and teachers from DepEd performed in the DepEd/RMTU Night (RMTU).

One of the highlights of the event was that everyone wore their best in their finest Barong Tagalog and Baro't Saya Outfits—the most well-known clothing items that have played a significant role in defining the Filipino culture, the Barong Tagalog for men and the Baro't Saya for women.

It was demonstrated that teachers are not only excellent teachers but also excellent dancers at this event where they all get the opportunity to display their talents. Schools tend to cluster according to performance. Teachers from the far schools make up our group, Cluster 2.

We made the decision to perform the well-known Muslim dance called Singkil. The Maranao people, who live around the shores of Lake Lanao, are the source of Singkil. We have studied this Muslim dance, as well as the dancing steps, costumes, and props.

We find it really difficult to follow the dance moves at first, but we are encouraged to demonstrate our dancing abilities, so we rehearsed a lot up to the performance day.

Our cluster enjoyed the night and encouraged each other to not be pressured and nervous by the crowd. To make everyone happy, we simply enjoy the evening and dance beautifully.

The municipal officials invited Ronnie Liang, a singer, actor, model, and significant figure in the Philippine entertainment industry, to perform on stage and sing for all the teachers in the event to give them the best entertainment possible following the performances of all the clusters and before the announcement of the top performer.

Teachers were really impressed with his performance because he sang a unique song that captured everyone's interest.

Following his performance, the eagerly anticipated winner announcement took place. Everyone gave their best performance while donning lovely costumes. But despite all of our efforts and hardships, our cluster never anticipated that we would be named the evening's greatest performer.

As the night's hosts called our name on stage, we were taken aback and cheered, but what made us even happier? A price worth 30,000 pesos, or $544.64 in current exchange rates, was given to us.

We're overjoyed to have made it. It was a fantastic night and a joyous fiesta for us!

Sounds like so much fun. How long did you all do the Muslim dance? Congratulations 🎉👏 on the prize at the end 😲 I'm sure that was like the icing on the cake.

It was indeed a fun and a great experience for all of us my friend. :) We only have a week to practice the Muslim dance, so it was so unexpected that we got the best performance. :)
